Did some of the garden, mowing and such... Then I spoiled the family by making them an unforgettable dinner

I made a roast chicken/sausage, vegetable and rice salad drizzled with melted butter and mashed buttery squash on the side. It was gorgeous!! Then for afters I made a big chocolate cake and doughnuts. What have I done?!:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I am not very well educated but I did see that Anzac day was listed in my diary the other day. What does Anzac day commemorate or what is the significance of it please. I really have no idea. Weather looks good over there.
I'm sure that @FonterraFarmer , @Kiwi Pete , @Farmer Roy or many other antipodeans will give you the full description but it's to commemorate the Austrailan and New Zealand regiments who lost men in the Great war and afterwards, similar to our Armistice day.

ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, as those who fought in WW1 from 1914 to 1918, but the date 25/4 refers to the day of the failed Gallipoli campaign of 1915 and hence is the equivalent of your Armistice day as HCF has stated .It's now a day to commemorate those who fought in all wars not just WW1. It is also a point in history where the Australians and New Zealanders realised that in these situations that we could not fight just under British command but under our own. Quite an important day , not just a public holiday.

If you want to hear more about the Gallipoli landings at Suvla Bay, have a listen on YouTube to ‘and the band played Waltzing Matilda’ by Liam Clancy (amongst others), you get the feel of the impact of the loss of so many ANZAC men. Chokes me up.

was just about to look for a link to that. I used to play it to my classes of kids when they started getting too excited about fighting and killing.

This one?

Yes. He wrote it but I think one of the best versions is by a guy called Roy Baily ( who also wrote You Need Skin if you want something to make you smile.) I don't want to get into a big debate about the rights and wrongs of war but if you want a anti war song this is it! I used to work with a New Zealander who had been at Gallipoli and I so wish I had taken the trouble to try and talk to him about it more and understand what happened but I'm in that generation who just didn't talk about it (1960s 70s even into the 80s).
