I’m sure some will ask why are they still popular/in demand.

Simple answer.
  • Rugged (not plastic)
  • Reliable- they keep on working and are relatively straightforward to maintain.
  • Repeatable - the most important thing, where many other units fail to be consistent, a Marconi meter is very good at solid repeatable measurements. Which surely is what is required and other makes fail to achieve.
They are simply one of the most trusted instruments on the farm and widely used by agents and merchants as a reference. Also Farm Assurance are more likely to trust a Marconi than any other make.

Despite their age, they can still be repaired/serviced and are not as expensive as modern makes.

I paid £10. It has a lot of gubbins under the rear flap, including a 3pin plug. It works.

I'll never use it. Parents of an old school friends farm sale. It's for sentiments.
