Today's biggest tractor price difference

Drive it :) I know of one company in Welshpool ( mid wales ) who drove a self propelled forestry chipper ( a big thing, like 500hp type big ) Back from Germany doing the ferry thing to get back to the UK.
Careful what you say, one of the owners is related to a regular poster on TFF.(y)

Actually, IIRC, farmers from all over Europe, countries like Italy or Spain, go to the valtra factory to collect their new tractors and drive them home.

I was going to get a price for a new tractor today, but I've seen the price for a well spec'd ex demo of what I'm after and after seeing that I'm probably not even going to bother ringing up now.

It's absolutely frightening the way the prices of these new tractors are going.

The tractor in question is £12,000 more than what our newest one was brand new 2 years ago. So a brand new one would be what, near 20k more?! Yes, it's the newer range and model up, new style roof/lights/bonnet and other than the obvious new engine, slightly bigger fuel tank and a couple of other little things it's damn near the same!

Is it really 12-20k worth?! The amount of extra work I would have to do just to pay for it would mean I would probably never not be working. It almost feels like that at the moment....

The trade in value Case offered us on our current one at 3.5 years old put it at £15/hr depreciation.

And that was with swapping the GPS screen and receiver over. If we'd put a new screen and receiver on the proposed new one it would have been even worse.

Like others on here, I need you to keep buying new machines so we can get the s/h bargains.

So stop complaining and put your hand in your pocket.

I’d think a lot of tractors would be close to that depreciation figure when you look at how much the new price has increased in those 3.5 years!

Tractors over 80k are bad business 80k could be spent on something much more lucrative than a tractor,
Surely it's all relative to the size of your farm and what you need to do with the tractor, it's getting to the stage where 80k doesn't buy that big of a tractor but can you do what you need to do with something smaller/cheaper?

But I do sometimes wonder if I'd be better off renting the farm out, cashing in the machinery and buying houses to rent out, at least they go up in value.

A little commonsense and a little time shopping about etc would get you a hell of a tractor for well under 80k, to produce grain at what price again ?
