Today's biggest tractor price difference

you could almost buy an old spare cheap one with 21k !

good service does have a value I agree but if the gaps @Guy is talking about here are correct and like for like they can not be ignored

Dealers can not legally refuse parts or service / warranty to a machine bought elsewhere under block exemption laws well established back in the day when everyone was importing cars and pick-up trucks at a fraction of UK prices

But dealers would first chose to look after customers who have bought from them, and leave the customers who have bought from off to the bottom of the pile.

The dealer could also charge customer who has bought from off what he wanted for parts and service.

only if he has a complete disregard for the law and was happy to risk the potential massive fines mentioned earlier in this thread

As others have said, it's a great headline but it's not a true comparison, it will always be an inexact science.
We all know with used machines, as soon as you've taken one turn the value is greatly reduced.

Even between 2 brand new models both in the EU, tractors have different specs for different countries. for example UK models have different headlights as we drive on the 'right' side of the road. Shipping costs have to be accounted for etc.

I accept that all these little things aren't going to make 10 of thousands of pounds of difference but it all adds up and this have to be weighted against future changes, i.e currency fluctuations etc It isn't as simple as it appears. The most scientific comparison you can do is to ask every mainland UK dealer for a factory order quote and see who is cheapest. That would be the most interesting.

People like @Guy are doing what the likes of carwow are doing for the car market and I commend it. But you aren't buying a TV or an iPad where their isn't going to be much of an after service, or if there is it is very centralised. So often farmers went local because they knew they would eventually need their local dealer, so they kept loyal, there is something to be said about that.

Dealers will moan because there isn't a big slice of pie in new sales but they are obliged to service a new tractor, even if you bought it from a dealer 500 miles away and don't believe what they say. Good workshops make money from warranty work.

The only fly in the OP ointment will be how the exit from EU will affect this pricing an. Whilst we are in this EU bubble farmers are protected if they know where to go. Looks like they wont be for much longer.

Ultimately like anything in life, tractors, dishwashers, a lady under a red light ;) the price you pay on the day is the one you should worry about. What someone else pays for it is irrelevant. If you were happy or could justify the price then thats all that matters

There’s no law against prioritising work? If two tractors broke down at same time the loyal customer would get fixed first and the customer who bought from off would have to wait.

Is there a law against discounts on parts and labour?

agree - and you would fully expect to be lower priority if you bought elsewhere and not much you could do about that - however as mentioned earlier in this thread modern kit , sub 5k hrs really doesn't break down that often and when it does you have to ask if a 21k saving on a single tractor mentioned is worth a bit of slower service

There are also plenty of independent techs these days who don't give a dam where the machine came from, in fact I've never had a problem getting a machine repaired either new or used regardless of its origin, at the end of the day the repair is paid work for any dealer or company and they would be fools to turn it away

yes there is laws about price discrimination if the reason was the tractor was bought outside the uK

That's another interesting fact.. overseas advertised prices include MASSIVE negotiated margin .. I mean massive

I’ve noticed this, asking prices in Europe on used tractors and machinery are often at least 10% more than over here.

About 50% of the tractors sold in Ireland are s/h imports. I have never heard of a dealer refusing to work on them. They would not last in business long if that was the case.
I imagine they would be glad for the work.
