Told off by the bank

I was with the Bank of Scotland for 40 years. I changed when it was clear the BoS were tring to force me to use online banking. Not one word of thanks for being a customer for all that time. Moved back again after a decade or so when the local branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland closed. No bank statements after the move. I'm deaf so I don't do phones.

I wrote two letters, both delivered by hand but after hours. Both ignored. Finally, my patience snapped and I phoned them (yes, I can when riled!). Apparently, they can't read and write any more. Customer service is virtually absence. I had to go through a remote sub-office somewhere. I've heard First Direct are good and initial contact has been promising, but it is all online which I am suspicious of. (Yeah, I know, but I'm old with twitchy fingers). Any thoughts? At least they seem to employ humans.
Online banking is so much easier and saves a massive amount of time and postage. I only wish that I could pay my business cheques in using the app as well as pay bills, transfer between accounts and view my transactions, all via my phone. It’s slightly more of a faff using a desktop computer, but not much.
Embrace the new and don't look back.

First Direct service is absolutely brilliant. English humans answer calls in seconds.

My point exactly! 🙂

Glad to hear it works!

I was on the telephone to some office and they wouldn't speak to me it had to be my husband. I said that was ridiculous as I could drag some random man off the street and get him to say he was my husband. As far as I recall I was enquiring about the price of something, but they had the account only OH's name.

I used to be able to log into son's account so I could print off his bank statements. Unfortunately no more, a security code is sent to his phone. This leads to much frustration - mostly mine as I have to get him to sit down in front of the computer and log into his bank.

Technically not the correct way to do things....but would it matter if you changed his number on the account to yours?

It sounds like he doesn't use it or want to use it.

It is his though and he should take responsibility for it, because Mam will not be around forever. If the bank knew what was happening it would probably close the account as the owner would be classed as a high risk.
