We are a family partnership consisting of parents and two sons we can all sign cheques and need just one signature. My mother and I are the only ones who use online banking and have done so for 10 years , brother and dad have aversions to computers Last week the device that generates a security code failed We did receive a replacment last year some time, so i tried to register it and failed .
On calling the bank for advice i was told that i was'nt registered for online banking . As i knew mothers passwords and code to accsess the security device our account would be frozen as we had broken terms and conditions of online bank
I told them that I and my mother have shared passwords ect for the last 10 years without a problem and we are happy with the current arrangement but the Adhar in Mumbai was not a happy about our online security On thursday we recieved a letter saying we have breached the terms and conditions of the online banking code and our online access is withdrawn. Mother and myself now have to have our own passwords and security devices to get online again

Next time just pretend to be her. If they question why your voice doesn’t sound as expected tell them that’s a personal matter that is none of their business. 🙂

We had similar problems earlier this year. Spent an hour on the phone being passed from department to department and eventually got put through to the most unhelpful, irate nerk from somewhere in Asia.
He even demanded to know how I'd got the number to his office!
So we gave up with the unhelpful phone line and drove the twenty minutes to the local branch where the lady behind the counter got it sorted in very few minutes.

Sorry if its a dumb question, what's "the device that generates the security code"?

I got locked out of online banking the other day because Mrs KP said she'd pay my credit card whilst paying other bills, my account asked some security questions, which she got wrong (I was in the room and would have answered if asked:rolleyes:) anyway 10 mins on the phone on Easter Sunday and I'm back(y)

It’s a small box you need either a special card or debit card you slot it in to produce a new security code every time you login. Guess I’ve had one for 10 years

Right oh, thanks for that, never heard of them before, must be a business account thing?

Rabobank have a “token” ( looks a bit like a key tag ) which generates random numbers, which you then enter along with your password / id when you log in. If the number changes while you are typing it, it won’t let you in & you have to start again.
My wife & I both use the same token / log in details. Rabo said she could have her own, or just use mine . . .

The banks are shocking these days. I had a row with mine so threatened to remove my account, adding that I would need it in cash (not that there's much but at least there's something). Next thing I had a visit to inspect a horse I had for sale! I suppose I should be grateful for the personal attention.

In years past, the bank charged me for going over drawn. Then they made an accounting error (pre-computer). I promptly sent them an invoice for my time in checking their work which, coincidently exactly equalled the unauthorised over draft charge. The manager refused to pay. I replied that I'd see him in Small Claims! My account was very promptly credited! I've used that precedent since with go results. Sauce for the goose, etc.

Don't forget the barstewards work for us, especially when we allow them the privilege of investing in our property and businesses. It used to particularly gall me that the manager would take me out to lunch to discuss my overdraft, then charge me for it. I can't remember much discussion about high finances but for some reason he always wanted to know the value of the gundogs in my kennel. My reply was always the same, "What make of car is he driving?". Or in farming terms, P.O.A.

No anybody can have them. Me and missus have one each for our NatWest accounts and I also have a nationwide one. All personal accounts.

NatWest is just used for adding new payees to my account and sometimes verifying payments.

Nationwide one I have to use to login on my computer which is a pain in the arse as I have to fetch my wallet everytime I want to just check something. Sorted that with mobile app now though as that's just passcode entry.

Well there you go, every day's a school day. Never seen one, Mrs KP tells me they have them here too but not that common. I take it its similar to them texting you an access code?
I do find online banking a great tool, can't remember the last time I actually went into a bank, must be years ago. They've done away with cheques here now too, which I don't have a problem with.

Those small boxes work on a battery, and if that fails, which ours did once, then you're a bit stuffed. I wasn't going to get a magnifying glass and the smallest ever screwy driver to remove said battery and replace, so phoned the helpline and they kindly completed the transaction - and sent a new box.

So how does a PINSentry work? I can see how a random number could be generated quite easily
But how does your tablet know its the right one when you manually enter the numbers to authorise the transaction, or how does the PS know you are entering the right numbers from the bank generated system, to respond?
Because I'm not aware that they are a Bluetooth device or a GSM.....
'Tis witchcraft I tell thee..
