Told off by the bank

Binkleys bonk rang me the other day saying that they needed some more information so that I could continue to use my account to buy stuff online . I told the gentleman that I do not discuss my banking details over the phone with someone that rings me out of the blue and to send me a formal letter through the post. A few days later the letter arrived and it appeared genuinely that something has changed to ramp up security. However, the final line in the letter said if 'you do not contact us to update your details we may close your account without further notice', what a nice way to be treated after being a customer for in excess of fifty years.
Had the same type of call here a fortnight ago, told them the same as you, with the added point, that I could not understand him... at all! Maybe one word in 3...

I was sent the letter and called the Business helpline and informed them that they already had ALL the info they were demanding, after we passed their effing proof and security checks.

Bloody incompetents, I am still haveing the alert at the top of my Online Banking page. I really hate Barclays online website now as well, hard to read and awkwards to negotiate.

Been through the same. Unfortunately you have no choice but to give them the information they need if you want to bank with them. We've also been a customer for many years, but had to take ID to prove who we were.
Apparently, I think HSBC cutomers went through similar last year, so even if you move bank you may not be able to avoid this.

So how does a PINSentry work? I can see how a random number could be generated quite easily
But how does your tablet know its the right one when you manually enter the numbers to authorise the transaction, or how does the PS know you are entering the right numbers from the bank generated system, to respond?
Because I'm not aware that they are a Bluetooth device or a GSM.....
'Tis witchcraft I tell thee..
I used to be able to explain it proper, but now I just know it's something to do with prime numbers and the difficulty of finding out if a big number is prime.

So yeh, witchcraft.

HSBC Safeguard. Can't remember when I last went through this painful process but the rotters are wanting it all again. Security code texted to mobile, no signal here tho'!
Why can't they send a letter saying what they want and I go to the branch with the info?

The pin sentrys or random number generator works on an algorithm of your pin which is multiplied by itself to the nth degree.
I believe they alll work across the board we must have ten around the place for different banks. I like them better than phone apps.
The need for reregistering for security i think is more so they can try and sell us insurance, certainly last time I had this P poor letter asking me to confirm that was all it was about

That's what I said to Barclays... Sen me an email or letter...

I was speaking with a woman and told her I would have to go outside to receive the bloody text... I asked, "can you call back in 5 mins please?"

"NO!"

Would have thought I had propositioned her....

I have the same red notice at the top of my banking page - but no indication of which information they require - I have ignored it so far on the assumption that they will write to me and let me know eventually

Yes, bloody cheek that they want you to call their sodding call centre instead of speaking with the local Bank staff.... Oh yes, there are no staff, and no Bank

I called the "new AgBusiness Team", and spoke with a lass from very West Wales, who was really helpful and old school. Turned out she was ex Branch and now worked from Home. Been with the Bank for yonks...

Had to use pin sentry other day in the bank, to pay cash into my own account....why no idea
Thats to stop someone else paying money into your account money laundering rubbish in a nut shell.
Local branch of B.......s does this sort of thing more so if ya drawing it out tho.
We used to have them RSA Token number things but moved away from them for more functional pin n chip readers.
Unless i receive a cheque for more than £1k these days ive no need to go into the bank anymore
Changing times i guess.
Saves me a 40mile round trip tho.

Could you log online if you do this of course & not update whatever details they needed?

Were all just a number its a shame really.

Too think a fair chunk of business's have kept them in going to be then treated in this way.
