Ours just emerging now having been drilled towards end August. Just 15mm ten days ago is the only rain it’s had. And what’s coming up (around 10-15 plants/m) is being ravaged by flea beetle - it’s October and we had two -1C last week. So flea beetle definitely not calming down here.

bit the bullet and 100% sure it’s the right decision, not going to nurse half a crop through winter to get massive patches of bg come and possible larvae damage !
Don’t want to look at it anymore first loss is best loss etc

Yes embarrassing but it’s me you can hear!
40 acres and I’ve got peas going in next door so makes sense to go with then as we have plenty of seed .
Got another 50-60 looking dodgy .
First crop failure for 50 years on this farm . So not easy to take but it’s just a hard year and with the current dry spell and wheat drilling dilemma it doesn’t look like getting easier for a while

I think we'll be lucky to have any that's worth keeping, even the clover in it that normally rockets away is struggling. Only had a bit of fert and glypho on the volunteers so far, did think about some insecticide last week, but decided against it as with the lack of moisture i think it would at best delay the inevitable.
By a stroke of genius (or maybe luck!) I had planned beans for 100ac. that would have been osr anyway. Just got to decide what to do with the rest now.

I'll be re drilling some of my failed OSR with winter barley, the rest with beans, some fields destined for barley this year will now be 3rd wheat, with the intention of going continuous wheat, and a few extra beans going on lighter ground instead of 2nd wheat.

Still no drilling done here as waiting for a BG chit and some moisture.

Sorry to hear that. Do you have any viable OSR for harvest 2019? Lack of moisture is putting every crop round here under pressure. I think mine is ok @ 3 to 4 leaves but sure is slow growing. Plenty of time for wheat to replace it if necessary

Am writing off all my re-drilled fields, circa 70 acres, the crop is coming through very slowly and BG is like a carpet in places, will spray off and bang some WW in.

Plenty in South Lincolnshire will go same way in next few weeks. Anything sown before the August Bank Holiday is OK. Crops sown after that day are a reflection of soil texture - nice soil then crop is managing to grow away. I have looked at several fields over the past few days and problem is that there are areas in fields that are OK but bulk of field awful. Hey ho.

Is that through CSFB or moisture deficit ? Some I drilled last week of September is now coming through and with no sign of CSFB I've been tempted to redial 40 acre thats suffered CSFB 2 weeks ago before the weekend rain thats forecast :scratchhead:

Redrilled 130 acres the day before last rain
No damage so far the carb have suffered in the colder frosty weather no inscecticide so plenty of beneficials will see notill has seed so the cost of redrilling is less than spraying
Beneficial will help next year
IMHO inscecticide on a pest showing resistance should be banned

Would you use antlantis on resistant tested bg

Interesting one. I collected CSFB evening of 17th September - bit of a beggar catching them. Submitted to Rothamsted. Received reply last week. 12 beetles tested - all fully susceptible to a full label rate of Lambda Cylohathrin.
