Topper Donut Drive Coupling - help please

So today I have replaced a Donut drive coupling - however on the replacement there is a steel outer band around the outside edge - please see piccies.

What’s its purpose ? And do I remove this now the donut is fitted ? or is it meant to stay in place ? the original donut didn’t have this.
Many thanks

same on our McConnel topper... I fitted a new one this year and it hasn't done many hours but is already to fail  we have bloody big ant hills and they don't yield when the ground is dry! We have a different tougher set up on the other side, it is much tougher type of donut. Cost of the shaft upgrade was eyewatering but the original shaft disintegrated when its donut failed

Thinking might bite the bullet and upgrade the other side too rather than replacing the old style donut after each couple of days topping.

The major one is a direct replacement. Only shorter bolts are needed.

Is that a major topper. There is a much better modified one available from them. Those old ones don't last long

yes it’s a Major 9’ topper, all the donuts are original (9 yrs old) and still fine apart from this one until after hitting something....
