Topper?

I’m looking at buying a 8ft topper; what’s the pro & cons of a fully off set one, as opposed to one that fits directly behind the tractor?

Offset frames crack with the stress, seen a few break all different makes. Get a inline flail , you'll never regret it.

In-line you’ll run some of the grass down before you can mow it. Depending on tyre width it could be 20%+. Depends how tidy you want it to be.
Or drive backwards and hope you remember to avoid the tree stump

I'd tend to agree
But if the OP doesn't have front linkage and services/PTO, using a front mounted topper won't be easy, regardless of what year we're in.

If you're cutting low,a McConnell topper 9/ rhino will take all the tyre marks out and leave it like a lawn. If it's set high not so good.

Not always. The grass is flattened down forwards and the flails are skating over it. Seen some sh!t results,some perfect, but type of flail makes a big difference. A rhino has updraft blades coming back towards the flattened grass and lifts it.

I used to work on a farm with an airstrip, we had to top the airstrip in reverse to stop having stripes

have you thought of the farming connect pasture for profit courses to improve your use of grass? I am doing one this month (went on an earlier one last year too)
