I’m looking at buying a 8ft topper; what’s the pro & cons of a fully off set one, as opposed to one that fits directly behind the tractor?

In-line you’ll run some of the grass down before you can mow it. Depending on tyre width it could be 20%+. Depends how tidy you want it to be.
Or drive backwards and hope you remember to avoid the tree stump

The in-line flail misses none , it hoovers the grass back up
Not always. The grass is flattened down forwards and the flails are skating over it. Seen some sh!t results, some perfect, but type of flail makes a big difference. A rhino has updraft blades coming back towards the flattened grass and lifts it.
