A lot of horse yards used to have a smouldering midden, but that’s nearly all damp straw/shavings that they have to pay to have taken away.

I'd never burn any muck as I consider any source of compostable material worm food even if it is not high in nutrients.

My neighbour (I love him dearly) pulled out a lot of gorse, then set about trying to burn it. Old tyres, pallets, you name it. Wait a few weeks and one match would have done a clean burn. But that's too easy!
