I find it amusing that the SNP and their supporters think that they are unique in there feeling of disconnect with Westminster. Yorkshiremen feel just as alienated, and I’m sure we’re not alone; but It would be chaotic if we all gained independence.
Why?
I think yorkshire should go for it.
Throw off the london yoke and breathe the clean fresh air of independence.

It is not just Westminster that is a problem in rural areas but the whole city culture and establishment. Talking to a friend who has made a very good living in the financial district and he absolutely agrees with my sentiments. The boundaries commission will make country votes more worthwhile but forming breakaway political parties and campaigning for independence for the regions will dilute our influence and shoot ourselves in the foot. The country vote must be valued and respected in Westminster and it won`t be if it is polarised by some jumped up banner waving lunatic with a grudge.

They overstate their importance and are over represented in comparison with other parts of the UK

My understanding is that the SNP do NOT represent the majority in Scotland.

It's very easy to slip into blaming the Scottish .. when in reality it's the SNP who are extreme.

I don't pretend to know what Boris will do BUT if he could victimise the SNP whilst supporting Unionists .. then that's the way forward.

The alternative would be making the SNP accountable but that could back fire.
That is correct they do not represent the majority they just spin it to make it look better than it is .

I wonder if any parts of Scotland might wish to seek separation from the rest. Divisional differences in the 2014 ref might give a clue or perhaps GE differences. Glasshouse advocates division, suggesting that Yorkshire seeks independence. Has he considered dividing Scotland in a similar way?

Strong suggestion that Shetland would go Scandinavian, and I could imagine Dumfries/ Galloway wanting to stay with England (as would my few acres in the Highlands, but unfortunately the granularity of referenda doesn’t usually allow for such things).

The Lib Dem MP for Orkney and Shetland did suggest referendums on the islands in the event of the Scottish mainland voting for independence.

Surely The UK together is better than its constituent parts. One thing hopefully that has been learnt from Brexit is that if you talk to down to the people and think you know better as the ruling classes did it will come back to bite you. The best would be some form of constructive dialogue based on the lines of the whole of the UK is leaving the EU however if after five or so years Scotland or Wales or Northern Ireland is not benefiting from leaving the EU they could hold referendums to leave the UK and rejoin the EU it would make Westminster concentrate a bit more on the regions

As I suspected. This division debate can run and run until the whole nation is fragmented. Surely it is better to bury the hatchet and try to exist as one. Too many bravehearts will wreck a good ship if they are not careful.
You mean if the bravehearts demand their rightful rewards, the good ship will sink?

That would make some sort of sense but it will not satisfy the agenda of some screwed up reactionaries.
