FFS ..

Most children of farmers have worked since their early years for little or nothing. I still get VERY little off the farm in my 50s.

But of course I can't take sick days .. nor do I have a Union I can use to get free time off .. nor do I have a massive gold plated pension with early retirement.

If you are self employed you don't take time off unless you HAVE to because no one is footing the bill nor doing the work you wanted to avoid in the first place.

IMHO public workers simply should NOT exist.
Why should farmers children work for very little or nothing, if the farm cannot sustain the labour it needs then it should go to the wall like any other business.

It is the uneconomic farms that should not exist, public workers are needed, they provide a service to the community.

That is all right as far as it goes, but... here in the UK anyway, and elsewhere too, an awful lot of 'public workers' are only around because their role / sector is insulated from the efficiency that the private sector has to be subject to. Take away that financial / union-backed cushion and what / how they do things, as well as the very need for many of them would be up for question. (y)

The same is true of farmers, many would not survive in the real business world. I have little time for those that profess to work for nothing. If you will do that you will steal.

When the wind is howling and the rain is coming in horizontally it’s the dead of night and you have to go out in it,most farmers think a public service job looks pretty cushy. But when the reality of clocking in at a set time each day with supervisors chasing you for however long your shift is , clicks in , they are not so keen.

We all know the bbc and channel 4 are left wing arms of the Labour party .

But Sky are now joining in , tonights visit is to Stoke on Trent , the Brexit capital , 72% leave .

So they organise a local panel of voters , 6 of them , 4 are remainers ........... ffs .

Sorry what?
This would be the BBC that has had Farage on question time more often than anyone else even though his party polls in the low single figures...that left wing BBC you mean??

Okay.

Name some jobs which are harder work than farming that bare similar risk .. ie putting your money INTO a business with no known guaranteed wage.

I slightly agree with Stewie , some of my hoss customers have 3 jobs to pay for their pastimes .

What I will say is farming is one of the most dangerous occupations .

We've put in £1,000s into the ground this season .. and got very little in crops to show for it. Prices on crops are low.

There's a good chance this next year we will see a loss.

I bet those will 3 jobs aren't working for -ve wages.

Livestock farming, especially milking is hard work - I wouldn't do it and I will do all kinds of hard & dirty work for long hours. Any desk job is like being on holiday in comparison. Building work has limited hours and regular breaks. Unless you are self employed most work has a guaranteed wage and even contractors get staged payments.

Farming is a risky business.

So people dont need to eat then ? There are many public service workers that work hard but many do not

I agree but the same risk isn't there for other industries .. even self employed people have stage payments for large contracts. Farms get paid on last years work and the fruits of potentially many years IF they are lucky.
