My old (70s) Poclain 360 digger is VERY slow when tracking from job to job around the farm, Is it ok to tow it ? or not , as its hyd drive to the track motors im not so sure.
Can get the model no: if that helps , its a 13 tonner

I wouldn't tow an excavator. I highly doubt that it won't even move with a regular tractor. And to think of the stress caused to the track and track frame if you somehow managed to get it moving.

Get a cheap trailer, there are some companies (for example Metsjö) that make very simple trailers that can carry 18ton+. The loading bridge is fixed to them, so basically just drive on, take the excavator to the next location, drive off.

And then buy big heavy tractor to go with it. (y)

In Track Marshall's twilight years they had a system where you jacked it up and put tractor wheels on each corner. I remember seeing it at Smithfield Show, but I doubt if it was very successful.

What wrong is that the pumps or motors are tiered, So by towing it at 5km per hour would speed the transport, any faster and you would need to pull the gear in the track boxes. To make a set of bogies is an option or buy a cheap lowloader

I had the same up until a couple of years ago, a Poclain, I think mine was a 15 tonner though. The electrics were shot on it, not much more than a wire from the battery to the ignition key and on to the starter motor. So the switch that boosted the tracking speed did nothing.
I just used to plan my route carefully, if I was doing a ditch one side of the farm, I'd have a good think about whether there was anything else that might need doing over there!
I had an old step-frame trailer on a 5th wheel dolley I'd move it any distance on, but sometimes it was quite pleasant to sit for an hour rumbling along across a field to get to the next ditch! The previous owner to me used to move it on an old style low loader, pulled by a Triple D. Not an easy thing to pull out of a blind gateway with!
My main hydraulic pump gave up in the end, and I was told that the secondary pump wouldn't be far behind. Non repairable items, and replacements would be about ten times the diggers value! One hell of a machine up until then though. I sold it to a fellow who thought he had a second hand pump to fit it, but I'm told that it didn't fit in the end!

Used to put an axle under the blade then use the blade to lift that end of the excavator off the ground. Swing the bucket round 180 and place in the well of the MB Trac and lift the other end up using the digger hydraulics. Fine for dragging around the yard not recommended on the road.

Ok Thanks all. As I expected , Hyd drive then towing is out. Have towed a Drott back across several fields once, but it had mechanical drive to the tracks not hyd.
