Very few (if any??? ) modern pickups have a proper low range gearboxes, the Ford Ranger we have is particularly crap. This means poor reversing performance in tight areas or uphill with a big load on a trailer. Also a PITA that you cannot actually go as slow as you would like forwards at times...
I suspect it's possible to spec different boxes if buying new, but here in the UK, pickups are l often sold as leisure vehicles and toys... so maybe not??
Absolutely no problem from the auto in low range. However, just as with all other pickups, in low range or high 4wd, they wind up like crazy on the bends where there is great traction. The exceptions are the Amarok auto and L200 which have open centre diffs in high range 4wd but the Amarok doesn't even have a low range. The L200 is light and not the most stable towing the heavy trailers, hence the lower towing limit, only just recently raised to 3.5 tons if the trailer is a triple axle. How do you get on reversing a fully loaded trailer up a hill round a sharp corner with your auto ?
Just askin'.

Amarok 2.0l manual 180hp with hi/lo range gearbox.
Had an auto gearbox before, and yes I did go back to a manual.
Speaking as the ex Land Rover development engineering trailer towing specialist.... The amarok is incredibly stable with the ifor behind!

Yes.Think the new ones are rated to 3.1t in the UK, and 3.5 tonne everywhere else in the world. Is the amarok not only rated to 3 ton though?
Now I’m really confusedView attachment 773478
