My dad has a 15 plate 2 litre amarok, 180bhp. Its the auto version, what are these like for towing a trailer full of cattle? Might be borrowing it while i sort another but dont want to ruin his truck, would i be better just using the tractor? If its decent may be an option for my next one...

Mine is a manual 2.0

Easily tugs eight store cattle inside the tonne and a half of Ifor Williams...

Do the maths and decide what the towing limit is

This photo was taken before I bought the tri axle fourteen foot DP for it

Have a 2.0 biturbo here too, also manual. We have a few different towing vehicles and I'd say it's the best. Bought it second hand and wonder if it's been remapped it pulls so well.

Downside is when not towing first gear is very short. Doesn't need low box because of that though.

Does it go well standard? And do you miss not having the low box at all?
Mine is a manual

Manual has switchable 2wd/4wd, has a low box and differential lock

The autos are permanent 4wd and have a low 1st gear.

They are the most comfortable most capable towing pickup that I've driven

Your old man's will pull the cattle without any trouble or damage

Keep a check on the coolant level. Egr coolers are a known problem and they don't have a radiator temperature guage. I cooked mine on the motorway, admittedly flat out full of sheep at the time. Expensive mistake, but I've a fully reconditioned engine as a result.

Best towing vehicle I've ever owned. The fendt of pickups.
I can't understand why you can only get a V6 now! I've never thought the 2 litre was short of power, but a salesman told me anything less than a v6 is no good and he would know.
Unfortunately I have no desire to own a 3l V6 at £30k plus so I will have to try a Ford ranger next.

You can't buy a new Amarok at all now, VW have ceased production

Only new ones are the ones left in compounds and when they're gone.....they're GONE

it is not an issue, because the production of all European Amarok has probably already ceased. Permanently.

I've just bought a new to me 2.0l 180bhp auto and absolutely love it, also towing a 12' ifor a couple of days a week. CH Render have a couple of amaroks in, don't look too badly priced either.
I hope Ford don't make a balls up of the next generation of VW Pick ups

They haven't made a balls up of any of their pickups so far so the omens are good. They do sell literally millions of pickups worldwide. In a normal year they sell nearly a million F150 in the USA alone, plus other models such as the Super Duty F250 and Ranger.

I should tow just a well as most other 2L pickups I would think. The question is how much weight you need to pull and if you can tow it legally.
