Trace element status

So my ewe results came back with moderate to low iodine, copper and cobalt, high selenium and low zinc.

These ewes were bolused in August so would have some residual from those, so vet has recommended bolusing but trying to find one with the lowest selenium. He suggested the Agrimin ones but are they the huge ones? Any other suggestions...? I guess I could use the animax cobalt and copper, and Drench with iodine, but how long would it last?

I struggle with lameness here, so he did advise trying to up their zinc levels, any suggestions.

We've got on very well with ZinCoSel last few years, meant to be a lot more than anything Agrimin but a farm up the road tried all the different makes and methods and said the genuine original Cosecure bolus's were the best.
I know you don't need Selenium so is it worth asking Cosecure which other combination of trace elements they do?

I think personally I'd go with the 12 month iodine injection (Felxidine), a 12 month cox cobalt bolus and a copper bolus.

Zinc is a weird one to measure as it needs to be taken in a syringe without a rubber bung and go in a glass tube. You can't rely on the result from a rubber vaccutainer tube. I would correct the first 3 and see what happens.

Selenium is toxic in excess.

The 'conventional' wisdom which I've heard from various sources is that if the sheep has too much of something, it will 'pee it out'. Any truth in this?

It depends on what we are talking about. Water soluble vitamins then pretty much yes. You have to try VERY hard to get toxicity of B vitamins.

Things like selenium, copper, lead, vitamin A & D all build up and are not excreted.
