Trackers

Does anybody have a tracker fitted to their equipment?
If so, does it work as expected? Are you sure?
Without going into too much detail, I have a unit fitted to one piece of equipment and it is not providing proper protection. I obviously don't want to provide details on a public forum, but I only recently became aware of this. The whole matter is tortuous, I feel stupid for entering into a contract with such a deceitful company, but we are where we are.

I've got one on my wife !! Lmao

I have one on a machine, we had some problems with the machine one day, earthing I think. Dealer came out, disconnected the battery to file off paint, phone rings in less than a minute from the tracking company, I am happy.

The thing about Tracker I've found is when something goes missing they can't find it unless it passes past one of their beacons.

We lost a JCB loadall last year with a tracker on- never found. Lost all faith in them. Still have them on our tractors as the insurance benefit pays for it.

In the current days of GPS (like the app find my iPhone which is free) I think tracker need to seriously up their game or someone will sweep the market up.

Is t
Yes but are you sure it works?
Is that a hint Mick? ;)

A friend who has a plant hire firm has them fitted, I think each machine has a SIM card and a phone number, so they can be shut down remotely and they are notified if the ignition goes off out of hours. Also stops people doing a night shift

we had a tracker fitted to items of plant and was very happy with it but they went bust after about 4 months of us entering into a 3 year contract for 6 of them about £2500 but the agent for them was very good about it shame as they did just what we wanted and had there own power source and worked well

I am so peeved about it, particularly as the one-time head of this company claims on his linked in page: "In addition, we have strived to improve the reputation of our industry in terms of customer care and support and have invested heavily in technology, and training our team to be not just the best in our industry but also be amongst the most customer centric organisations in the UK."
The company concerned is Tracksure, now defunct, but this man is still in the business.

As a word of warning about this subject, a friend of mine had a tracker fitted to a mini digger. After a bit the tracker started to get unreliable and he kept on at the suppliers to get it fixed. The digger was stolen before the tracker was sorted. Because he is honest he told the insurance co. that it didn't work when they asked why it couldn't be traced and they refused to pay him out.

Not sure I entirely agree with the sentiments of the last comment. Someone entered into a contract and may have benefited from a reduced premium by stating a tracker was used. I suspect on looking at the small print, if the tracker was not operational their liability was released. Read the small print and think carefully. Nothing stopping anyone fitting a tracker and not going for the reduction in premium - its all about consequences.

On a similar note, be very, very careful if you have an alarm on your house and you claim a reduction on the premium for it. You may well find that you will have to set the alarm if you are not in the house. Sounds simple but if you read the small print that means that even if you are off in a shed somewhere or mowing the lawn, the house needs to be locked and alarmed. We looked into it in depth at the last place (with the NFU) and asked them for detailed definition as to their wording which was ambiguous at best and so, despite having an alarm installed, we did not claim the reduction on the premium. It gave them too much of a get out.

Have had quad bike stolen 3 times. First time no tracker on, bike not found so claimed on insurance. Second time bike had tracker on and located within 24 hours parked in some bushes near a travellers camp. Police used a recovery firm to pick up bike and kept for 3 days so they could fingerprint it, but I had to pay the recovery firm a fee of £105 to get my own property back and do a round trip of 30 miles to collect it, and the insurance excess was £150 so could not claim from them. No prosecution arose from this.
Third time bike taken it had a tacker on and was located 12 hours later outside a workshop 100 miles away. The workshop owner said the bike had been left by someone he had met in the pub who asked him to service it. He did not know the persons name and the bike had no keys with it!! The police insisted on using a recovery firm to pick it up and keeping it for 3 days so they could fingerprint it. No prosecution resulted as the workshop owner was of previous good character!!! This time I had to pay £156 to the recovery firm and had a round trip of 220 miles to pick it up. Again insurance excess meant I could not claim. The tracker subscription was over £100/yr and the reduction in insurance premium did not even cover this subscription,so have not renewed tracker subscription.
