Tractor bills

Just had a newholland 6030 2012 3400 hr brakes done 2 month later clutch has gone this tractor start to add up in bill before this tractor we had same and Lamborghini tractor left the farm doing about 7000hr no brake done on them but clutch as they had a loader on but we spilt the tractor and do the clutch our self not much cost what tractor would be recommend to buy next as a tractor that can be work on and new or have them days gone and only workshop dealer can do the work

I've been saying that NH give brake trouble and lads have been denying it , I know plenty of NH with brakes going from 1000 hrs on . If you were to open up the axles of every brand of tractor and look at the brake system you would see that NH have the weakest system , only a single disc doing all the work , other tractors have 7 discs which spreads the work load. I think the lowest hrs I've done brakes on valtras is around 8000 hrs and a t170 on origionial brakes at 12000 hrs. I'd say any brand of tractor will give better lifespan on brakes than NH.

All down to how they are driven and trailer brakes serviced,we've had 17 NH tractors since 1996 and never had a single brake issue but we use the engine brake and service the trailers.

How badly did the brakes go and did the filter light come on? Did you carry on using it after?

Sounds like bits have gone round the system and possibly blocked a solenoid or something. The whole back ends needs a thorough flush after a brake failure.

There's 2 reasons I know of that brakes fail quickly, first is driver error and second is if they have previously failed and whoever put them back together didn't replace all the parts correctly (pistons scored badly but thrown back together with new discs just to get it sold or out of warranty.......)

I would class the tractor you've got as a simple one in today's market to be honest, you can do most stuff on them yourself. What gearbox has it got?

Thats good for you but if you got an independent engineer to examine every brand of tractors back axle , and compare the brakes capacity , NH would be at the bottom of the table , NH have made the tractors bigger with more power but have not improved the brakes , not much differance in a 100 hp and a 200 hp braking system. If the trailer brakes are not working 110% behind a NH the brakes won't last too long. Just ask any NH mecanic about the brakes as he has bad dreams about them .

James DS, yes it's good for us but surely by the amount of problems you claim in NH tractors the number of tractors
we have had over the years we would of had some bother with brakes but we have never had problems.
Trailers serviced regularly and not driven by cowboys is how we get a long life out of our brakes.
James ds, talking rubbish old chap!!

Spoke to neighbour he brought his tractor same time two new Holland deliver didn't know but sold his as he put two set of brakes in his think it was next model up I spoke some new Holland workshop boys and said they had a lot of brake problem . 46 would have been on older type brakes that lasted all but forever as made of seriously hard compounds.
Today's brakes believe or not are made of paper and resin as that's to save more delicate hydraulic systems , clutch packs and sensors etc but are very prone to failure with heavy unbraked trailers and idiot driver's keeping their foot on the brakes for prolonged times.
New holland have a delayed trailer braking system which means for a very short period the tractor takes ALL the heat through its own brakes without the trailers assistance but this is highest demand.
These days it's very easy for an idiot driver to destroy a set of brakes within 50 hours of use and I have known of 2 especially dreadful driver's do less than 50 hours on brand new tractors but a well destroyed set of brakes that needs a serious wash out and multiple oil and filter changes can run into many thousands of pounds if driven after the filer warning light first comes on.
