My 16 year old is desperate to take his test but haven’t managed to get a date yet. Online keep going round in circles with theory test coming up as required and my wife had no joy on the phone. Has anybody had any success in these difficult times or do we just have to wait for easing of restrictions?

My employers son is also keen to do his test before harvest as we could use his help and it would be handy if he could drive on the road. Dont think he had a test booked before all the lockdown started but trying to book one as a key worker is proving difficult, whether he will get one in the next 6 weeks or not I don't know, I can't imagine tractor tests are at the top of there list even if they are 'key workers', the will have a backlog of all test types to sort out.

Why don’t you drive to a testing centre and have a word with one of the examiners because they may be able to do it ,because they don’t go in the cab with you ,I wouldn’t ring them call in and catch them off Guard , but I do think not Testing anyone at the moment .

Boys around here been waiting since March to do tractor and car tests.
Think slot in August now.
Tractor ok as examiner just stands on street corners to watch you.
Cars etc. Bit different if in vehicle with them?
Long waiting lists prevail

Good news is that with relaxation of restrictions my boy has been able to get and passed his test today. Does anybody have a link as to what he can carry/tow now? Only thing I have found is 2.45m width of tractor or trailer. Is there weight and width restrictions on what can be carried on the hydraulics.

Just look this up it’s out of my agricultural vehicle law book. May be a little outdated , but still quite from it . Be worth getting in touch with NFU.

Thanks. I think all of that still applies except that if the tractor has a factory fitted seat a 16 yr old can now go on the road to practice with a suitable adult and L plates before a test.
Still unsure what, if anything, he can carry on the hydraulics on the road having past his test.

At a guess, nothing on the hydraulics over 2.45m world be a starting point.

As part of the test does he not have to learn what he can and cannot now carry and drive?

I rang the DVSA, not sure what number I used, and tried to get him booked in as a critical worker which did not work as he has not been registered as one. None the less she did book him in and we had notification within days of test. I think the DVSA booking line is 03002001122 but not sure if that is the number I used.
