Tractor Passenger Seat

I would think it's Ok so long as it's a tractor that has/had the option of a passenger seat fitted. Interesting question for someone in the insurance industry.

I have a Renault 70 14 (don't judge) and a tractor obsessed 8 year old who looks at me like I have left him at the orphanage every time I go down the road without him.
Well firstly I wont judge you about your Renault, we had a similar tractor and we were well pleased with it.
Secondly, I remember our Massey dealer telling me that a customer bought a new tractor off them and before they delivered it to him he called in with a brand new Britax childs car seat and asked them if they could possibly fit it in the cab pre delivery. As he said "If my little grandson is in the cab with me at least I know where he is!" Anyway just to be on The safe side they contacted The HSE who said "Not bloodly likely" (Or words to that effect ). Now that was many years ago but no doubt since then the laws could be the same if nor even stricter about retro-fitting a seat in a tractor cab?

I was under the impression that no person under the age of 14 was aloud in the cab of a moving /running machine ???? Either in the field or on the road.
Ask yourself where you would rather they be:

In the cab beside you on a seat, or running around outside getting into the blind spots?

Would you let your children go and play in the traffic in town?

The law is the law, but I believe there are plenty of arguments for changing it.
Tractors have come a very long way since the days of sitting on a mudgaurd or standing on the drawbar, with very little to cling on to.
A child strapped in a proper seat as in a car must be safer than running around the yard.
However , this is a long way from allowing a youngster to have control.

The police have no issues if seat belts are fitted tho and on the road I guess they have more powers.
Can anyone remember the "Low Profile 6150r" thread on here? I was talking to the guy that was driving that recently and he was exceptionally glad his young daughter wasn't in the cab the day the slurry tanker took charge of the tractor as she would be very lucky if she was still here after that.

The Renault passenger seat for that model was against the left hand widow I believe with a curved plastic coated grab rail.

Thanks all. I will give up on the idea and tell the young one to toughen up!

Looking back now I see I was born into a life of crime.... what chance did I have?

As Judas Priest would say:

"So much for the golden future, I can't even start my tractor,
I've had every promise broken, there's anger in my heart
you don't know what it's like, you don't have a clue
if you did you'd find yourselves doing the same thing too"

Fudge the law I say, I have a passenger seat for my 6 year old, when he is sitting next to me I KNOW he is not in danger of getting run over
