Went to the Royal show when I was about 11-12 about 80-81 and I was absolutely transfixed by tractor pulling, we had never seen anything like it up hereabouts, old man couldn't get me away from it. Have tons of pics somewhere, must dig them out.

Snoopy was from the South East of the UK Mike Cushing built and owned it some years Then sold it to the Whittingham family in near Lancaster, they have have run a number of Snoopy tractors, not sure but I believe its now Snoopy 4.
Huge improvements over the years, loads on the internet, there’s also a number of very competitive machines competing both here and into Europe. There’s normally at least one European pull held in the uk normally Garstang Lancs

Yes Mike built the original Snoopy with a 41lts Packard marine engine then yes Whittinghams owned it and was rebuilt in to the Hooker and ran for a few years then it was sold on again and now the engine is in a car , Whittinghams now have 2 griffon powered tractors Snoopy 3 & 4

There was a green and white puller at that time on the circuit from the Netherlands, with a Packard Merlin engine out of a landing craft. Was called Snoopy.
When it would start up there was a noticeable emptying of the showground towards the pulling track.
Happy days, Last of the proper Royal Shows.
The Dutch tractor of that time with a Merlin engine was called super Kasper

I can hear them pull at gt.eccleston Lancashire. From my house. about 3 mile away.
Can see the black smoke, interesting trying to explain to my fishermen what the noise is, if they've no idea what I'm on about. It is a spectical.
I know Desperate dan , Brian armisted . I believe its retired , not sure about that. Walter parkinson also local.

Walter packed years ago & Brian has not pulled for a good few years now , still has his tractor, but it is broken

Remember going to Newark showground in late eighties or maybe early nineties to watch it, always remember chariots of fire with the RR engines driven by Mike Laueence I believe. Great sight on a dusky Summers evening, flames from the stacks and glowing turbos and manifolds, still remember the ground shaking as they went by. Great entertainment.

The Massey Nipper 290 in twin turbo form they reckoned made about 500hp and ran pretty reliably at that power level.

They then had a go with a triple turbo setup and twin rotary pumps and dual injectors per cylinder. They then had some fair bother with it regularly going bang and things melting, but when it went they figured they were at ~800hp. Not bad for a 3.9 litre 4 banger !
