Tractor remap or chip what's the difference

Hi guys wanting to get my mccormick mc135 2009 chipped or remapped and was wondering if it was safe, does it need to be taken to a professional to be turned or can I just buy a chip which plugs straight in
Cheers George

Hi George.

This thread contains some relevant info for you.

That Perkins is a gutless pig though, should be able to remap it to 150+ hp which will be a great improvement.
See the problem I have is I believe it is an iveco engine as it is one of the later models and the engine is still gutless, I don't think the chip would be The same and I don't have a clue about tuning or where to get it done or where to look

Yes it's the iveco one but it is still mechanical fuel injection one of the last ones before they changed to electronic, does this still make it possible to remap

Sorry for all the questions but surely the air fuel mixture would be wrong, as you have put more fuel in does this mean the air will just go in faster as you turn the screw, would this destroy economy? And how much more power do you think I would get
Cheers George

Air fuel ratio on a diesel engine is not the same issue as a petrol engine.

You cannot go ''lean" on a diesel.
Rich isn't too rich until you get to a point where you are inputting far too much fuel and have a crazy amount of black smoke, this can be a detriment to power produced.

On a diesel engine more fuel = more power AND more heat.

You'll struggle to increase economy if you increase the power.
It's possible economy may stay the same due to not having to rev the engine as much to do the same work.

If you want economy go and buy a VW Lupo.

If its turboed then the turbo will run faster as more diesel is burned therefore introducing more air

I knew that adding more power would introduce more heat and was also considering a new exhaust to allow everything to flow more quickly which should reduce heat and Maybe pressure which would help the turbo to spool a bit faster?

Would the reliability still be good, I’m not going to go round everywhere flat out trying to kill the engine, but the temputure gauge always goes above half when working hard anyway although it is still well in the green I thought they should always stay at half way up the needle
