Tractor replacement policy.

Last new 200hp tractor I bought new in 2014 for £110k with all the bells and whistles including extended warranty. Quoted £195k for new equivalent with a slightly longer warranty. Frightening!

I want to try and run my tractors for circa £10/hr over their lives, obviously increasing 2nd hand prices have helped me achieve that.

In terms of running costs, usually about;
£2/hr servicing
£1.25/hr tyres (on flint)
sub £2/hr repairs

just had a £5k repair bill which didn’t taste very nice but less than £1/hr, better than the £30k/yr I would need to finance a new replacement.

If I wanted to buy new and change at 4-5000hrs it’s going to cost at least £25/hr

We have a JD 6910 Power quad, bought with about 4k on clock, now 12k on clock and only ever had oil and filters done by ourselves. She is getting ready for some engine TLC though, old oil drip..

Wait I tell a lie, had to replace PTO switch in cab, cost like £70 which we thought was expensive 😅 and there's probably a few fan belts and an alternator in there at some point but can't remember for sure.
Its easy to think a tractor has been super reliable but once ye start to think about it ye realise itl have had alot of wee bits here and there to get to 10k hours

I’m certainly not buying!

That was a quote this spring for a new JD6215R with all the bits and pieces. £165k for the tractor and £30K for 6 year/6000hr powergard. That also includes all the servicing for 6000hrs, big price to swallow!
For 30k id chance a breakdown. In all seriousness a tractor should do 6000 hours with very little spent

In reality are extended warranties worth the extra money as I suspect one needs to spend a good hour reading the small print of the warranty that is being offered at great cost to the buyer.

This is what I've been saying all along.. if you spend 60-100k on a new piece of equipment, the 'standard' should be no repair bills within its expected life span, it should be considered bad luck to need to replace a gearbox or whatever.. not considered good luck to not have to.. complete opposite to what's expected in moat industries.

I agree, it’s too expensive and wouldn’t £30k for it. In their defence it does include £12k ish of servicing.

I was having this very conversation with another dealer only last week. A lot of people want guaranteed running costs however there has to be a crossover point. Known costs are nice but not so nice when you know the costs are very high!

I think it depends on the manufacturer and dealer.

I couldn’t fault JD Powergard, no quibbles on anything although it probably hasn’t gained me anything over paying for the repairs myself without powergard.

I know stories from Blue tractors with make it a complete waste of time and money.

So 18k for your warranty =£3/hr. I've got extended warranty @£1.40/hr paperwork says full warranty

Yes, did it myself, but they only need it every 2 years or so remember, never bother with fuel or air filters as I fill up out of my own derv tank.
Where do you get your oil and filter do they fall off back of a lorry if there no cost. Do you have nothing else to do? What about opportunity cost you could be servicing someone else's car for £35/hr

Ebay... I earn £100/hour doing it compared to the Garage bill, granted some of that is £10 for them to top up washer water.

I’m sure the whole job can be done much cheaper than £195k for a JD and powergard. I needn’t bother carrying on farming if I can’t run tractors cheaper than that in the future.
Not same but got a n174coming at 104k including the warranty. I don't know what number T series would match the JD but would guess it would be a good lump less than 195k(165k)
