Tractor servicing costs

Filters are from memory about half the price of genuine ones apart from the big hydraulic one which is no cheaper than the main dealer, that was from inline filters

Agreed when I used largo (cheaper than inline last time I used them) was all Donaldson for my mf, which is oem, prob around 150 for all filters inc derv air etc, got full drum 200l of mf spec rear end oil for 300 ish at time, (still got loads left obviously) people are mad paying these costs I certainly could not afford to run my tractor if them service cost were what I had to pay.

That seems very expensive to me, but I don't know what a 1200 hour service entails.

At least put a copy of the invoice up for us all to gawk at. Blank out the personal and company details. Remember, you've still got the power - you haven't paid the bill yet.
Actually i did make a slight mistake it was £2200 the £400 bit was the vat never the less !!!
Wont be paying or buying anything else from them. Invoice attached

1100 lbs labour....christ, how long were they there for? At 75 an hour, that's over 14 hours?

Had an invoice today….

45mins time on farm.
Google maps says 31mins for the 17 mile trip to the dealer.

Labour £280
Van mileage - 25 x £1.25

But on that day, to do that job, any other option would have cost me more in other ways. At the very least it saved me the drive to get the parts and got me going quicker.

I'm not sure you'll get away with not paying?
Looking at the invoice, did they have the rocker cover off and check valves?
How long were they there? Did they do any updates etc.
Lesson learned, ask for a price before they get the job. Ring the service manager and have a word.

Is it about 3000 hours on the bigger fpt engines (puma size) that you have to take the rocker cover off and change a filter on the engine breather.? .
Even the mechanics say its not a great job to do but it needs done. I wonder how many farmers doing their own servicing bother!.
I wonder if all the dealers do it?
Maybe explains the price differences on here?
I notice its a 2400 hour service not a 1200 as in the OP.

Well I see on google that a 504070038 is an Iveco valve cover gasket so it looks like they have done the filter thingy (5802276802).

It really comes back to how long the mechanic/s were on farm for. 14 hours seems excessive for one competent person, but if it was a technician with an apprentice in tow....it could explain the labour discount? It could also explain why there's essentially double the amount of labour stuck to the job.

The plot thickens.

Sometimes these things don't end up being as straight forward as the original posts suggesto_O Could be some laptop time in their too, calibrating the transmission or something? Trouble is we don't always get to know the outcome.

Could just be the dealers a robbing bugger though.

A 1200 hour service is a service carried out every 1200 hours, more work is done on a 1200 hour service than a 600 hour service.
Basically every other service is a more comprehensive service than the ones inbetween
Yep I get that but a 2400 hour service might have something that the 1200 doesn't, like the valve filter/check or is that done every 1200?
The invoice said 2400 service to manufacturers spec but doesn't list work done or hours spent.
A call to the service manager would be a good idea.

I can say that changing the rocker cover filter on a swb t7 is no easy task. If took 2 of us the best part of a day to do it. Everything around the rocker cover has to come off to enable the rocker cover to come out. You can really see where the hours dissappear to.
