If they are being driven "at all hours", "recklessly" and "putting the fear of god up local people", none of those things will change if lorries are used or the tractors are more regulated.

Those problems lie with the driver not the vehicle.

My word! well done councilor Sykes for once he is doing something useful, he is absolutely spot on with what he says, only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or killed.

• Over many months, residents in this borough, particularly residents in Shaw and Crompton, have experienced noise and disturbance from large agricultural tractors pulling large trailers containing spoil on public highways from early in the morning until late at night

• In addition, these vehicles are at times driven recklessly and at speed, posing at danger to other road users and pedestrians

Again another case of ignorance on behalf of both the operators and Councilor Sykes. If these tractors are being used for commercial haulage then they are subject to exactly the same rules as hgv's and as such there would be plenty of things the authorities could pull them up on if they chose to do so. I would however be cautious about third parties statements about their speed. One woman claimed she'd seen me doing 60 mph in my tractor some time ago. As it was only a 40k one I told her that she was clearly mistaken.

The NAAC have organised a few meetings about this subject that are going to be held around the country. They will be open to members and non members although the charge for non members will be slightly more. I'm awaiting final details and when I get them I'll stick a post on this forum.

I have a guy like that as a neighbour, absolute waste of a skin him and his kids, up to allsorts and police there regularly but ALWAYS get let off, it was always the case with him growing up, and now the case with his 20+ y.o kids, he's Teflon coated and I'd like to know how these people get away with things so much.

Simon you might as well post that on the councillors "blog" so that he can save looking like a complete twit when he wastes council time to "Ask the Chief Executive to write to the Secretary of State asking the Government to sponsor a change in the Goods Vehicle (Licensing of Operators) Act to make tractors used for this purpose subject to the same licensing and legislative requirements as apply to other good vehicles."

Whilst the bit about mobile phones may be true I think it applies to all road users not just tractor drivers and also young and old alike.
However UK gov statistics show that the accident rate involving agricultural vehicles has actually dropped quite significantly, a fact that I think personally is due to a lower differential speed.
