Trade union power.

The trade unions of course finance the Labour party & currently appear to have great influence.

The same leaders seem to be in charge for decades.

In a democratic country, why don't ordinary working people kick them out & get more sensible leaders.

I would assume some union members are Jewish, they can't be very happy with the current union leaders.

I do know some have a choice at local firms either pay union subs or private health insurance, which seems fair enougth.

What a mess, please pardon the pun. It appears that the Birmingham Labour run council employs members of two different trade unions, Unite and BMG with whom it negotiates separately. Unite is very pro Labour and the BMG is not (certainly anti Corbyn). The two unions would appear to be at loggerheads and both are in disagreement with the council. The people of Birmingham are sick to the back teeth as this has been rumbling on since 2017.
My take on this is do not engage separately with different unions. The unions must realise that privatisation of services is the likely final outcome and they might both loose out. Certainly the council will look pretty stupid having to implement a right wing policy.
Maybe this is a gross oversimplification but it smacks of union in fighting, a power struggle perhaps, and total council incompetence. They deserve each other but the people of Birmingham do not.

In her previous employment, my Missus worked for of the big Trade Unions, despite being possibly the least unionised person you might meet. All the principal officers were either Socialist Workers Party members, or Communist party members. They were very disparaging of the Labour party.

I know a woman who used to work for unite

I don't know what her husband does but kids at private school, the house, the sports car, the 4x4 & plenty of drinks at the cricket club.

She is lovely & just worked at unite for a wage, but don't think her old bosses would approve.

Not really representing their workers, just running the unions to suit their political beleifs/ambitions?

Workers need to have representation as some bosses are appalling, including many in the public sector that ignore workers rights etc . The trouble is union reps are a bit like MPs and councillors many just like the sound of their own voice but couldnt run a pee up in brewery

Len McCluskey the head of Unite is a classic case. Someone who is an ardent Marxist and Brexiteer and refuses to acknowledge the wishes of his mostly Remain membership.

I was suprised at his academic sucess, when I read about him on wikipedia. Also had a good job at the docks.

Goodness knows why he has gone on to be such a pest to the country.

What on earth do women see in him? kids all over.
