Trading standards prosecution

just wonder what they mean by going to prosecute me.
Neighbour had took a pic of a cow that had ripped both tags out. I had no idea bout.
Sold cow at weekend and moved off they said they’d order tags.
I’m mean time phone call.
Trading standards asking why it wasn’t tagged said ripped out.
Asks where it is now. Obv has to say as cts was updated anyhow.
They go there there this evening examine animal. And have come back on me saying going to prosecute. It’s first offence. I know made a balls up and admitted it.
What we recon worse will happen ?

The neighbour issue is a continuing 1 he doesn’t like anybody in the village speaks to nobody atall. When we bought the farm we inherited the nasty bugger. And there is no reasoning with him on anything. We have been to police station several times for a mediation session it’s just a bloody nightmare tbh. And a new barn baby and a poorly wife I’ve got to much going on to be honest.

Cheers at @Skintagain we’ve sold all the stock virtually we was milking. And just needed them gone.
Luckily do get a little family help 1 day a week to take pressure off. But having a full time job to it’s quite hectic. Just I know I ballsed up like. Hopefully will sort itself

They will take money from your single farm payment I suspect, a guy down the road had something similar happen and they took £1500 of his SFP

Which county is it? They can vary in different areas.

Are you with the NFU ?
They have legal assistance cover stuff
Give them a ring now..... Then let them deal with it
Otherwise get your solicitor to sort it out

That's my opinion

Some of the trading standards are fine if you explain what has happened and work with them , maybe the Tag was flipped upside down in the ear and couldn't be seen in the ear on the photo but was defiantly there when you loaded her but must have lost it later.
Next time show them any cow with a fresh looking Tag and blag it without mentioning movement ,

Have trading standards seen the cow with no tags? If they've only seen a picture can they prove its your cow and not someone else.
My guess is that photo' background would have made the cow's location and ownership obvious. You have been daft, it happens, but the fact that you were frank and honest from the start should work in your favour - they get a lot of time-wasters and often appreciate honesty.

If you are having problems, don't be embarrassed about explaining this to the TS people; although many people are officious, there are also many who are of good will, understanding and willing to exercise discretion in the use of their powers. As mentioned above, get some support, explain to TS you are having some problems and are getting help and advice, ask them for a bit of time.

Good luck.

So after speaking with them this afternoon.
They are looking to prosecute.
Doing me for obstruction. Even though told them where they were etc.
Said they don’t fine off the sub now either. Also it more than likely could end up in court and mite get time. I was abit shocked to be frank as it is a first time offence and they know the problems we are having.
