Trail cam recommendations

Looking for a decent trail camera, I think I have nocturnal visitors on a part of the farm away from the house and buildings, I think I know what's going on but need proof before I confront them, any recommendations? Could do with one without any tell tale visible lights etc, do they send notification when they are activated?

Recently acquired a Reolink Go for an off-farm monitoring job.

I’ve only partly set it up, so can’t give you a long term review just yet. Quality at night seems pretty good. Got it from Amazon and it came bundled with one of these new Vodafone “V-SIM” a dedicated IoT SIM card. £4 a month. Seems alright.

Anyhow here is a UK based review of the camera and solar panel I found on YT. Posted this on another thread.

Victure Wildlife Camera 16MP 1080P Trail Game Camera Motion Activated Infrared Night Vision with 2.4" LCD Display IP66 Waterproof Design for Outdoor and Home Security https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07H7D83PZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_WueXDbJN4QSD3

Bought 1 of these as I run over my £200 bushnell one which my old chap helpfully put on a gatepost in a tight gateway, better off with a few cheap ones than 1 expensive one. If your changing the cards in one might aswell change a few.

Infrared night vision has tell-tale light clusters that are usually very visible. I have a battery driven trail camera that I used successfully in the last few weeks to catch some minor vandals [one of whom was going on a residential Land Management course only a couple of days after ]. I taped the infra red cluster over and it worked OK in poor light, but would not have worked in the dark.

For amusement I printed and posted the picture up at the site with the words "smile for the camera moron!" written across it. His mother was told about it and was incandescent with rage until she was shown the picture. She came in like a storm and went home like a lamb, full of apologies. Good lesson for the lad I think and I hope he does well.

Bought one of these yesterday, arrives today so we'll have a go with it.
No glow IR LED's so shouldn't be detectable.

Technology moves on. First time I've seen these 'no-glow' units. Didn't know they existed.

Black light LEDs aren't as good for picture quality at night but they are much less visible if it's people you are trying to catch, not wildlife.

Hi, what are your opinions on this camera 6 months on, and how long do the batteries last? I am thinking of buying one to monitor a gateway with frequent fly tipping. Could you read a car number plate from the videos or still in daylight?

Don't forget to put up the legal "get out" poster telling the little darlings you are filming....

Good luck with getting your evidence though, and take it to local Council, hopefully for a prosecution. ?

It's been ok, I never load the photo's on to a computer so can't tell you if they are clear enough to read a number plate, I just play everything back on the screen.
Last week it's started playing up, the photo's and video's recorded after dark have come back totally black for the first time, not sure if it's a one off or if it's IR is knackered.
Had a rather nasty experience a few weeks ago though....a wagon driver dropping off some cattle right next to where the camera is fitted decided it would be a good idea to drop his trousers and put the 'ol rusty sheriffs badge on display.. can't un-see that sadly :yuck: :stop:

We bought the following from Amazon. It all seems to work pretty well. Once every 2 weeks I charge the rechargeable batteries and clear the memory card. I wouldn't recommend these batteries as they are slightly wider than most and get stuck in the camera. It does the job.
Its amazing what goes on in the gateway we are monitoring!
