Trailed forage harvesters

Every system has its bottleneck, too often people assume it’s the forager but in reality it’s either the buckrake or the
pit.

The sweet spot in a system is usually a gear less than you think it is (y)
Very true, a lot of lads dog the life outa the harvester, then sit waiting 5 mins on the next trailer coming, then do it again....

JF 1100 mk2 we bought as a back up machine for our other JF 1100 mk2. My brother is currently rebuilding, the aim is for reliability, all new bearings, blades, bolts, full blast and paint. No point running a machine that is crusted up and falling apart... it would be a nightmare in the field. Mechanically this machine was spot on but the previous owner used to jetwash it and put it away so all the panels and tinwork were showing signs of age.

Has anyone here ever used a Taarup 602c?
Were they a good harvester? Also what is the difference between a 602b and a 602c?
yes we used to run both ,the c had a heavier gearbox,it also had stronger motors for the reverse and the shute, the later c and 622 had wearplates on the side of the drum ,they were a good harvester but their limit was about 30ton per hour ,130hp was the ideal match ,god forbid if you picked up steel but stones etc didnt effect it ,as regards build quality they were far superior to the jf but harder driven, where in leinster are you from

Good info thanks, I'm from County Louth. I just picked up this tidy 602c today.

The 1100 was advertised to lift 96 tons per hour

Taken from an old TFF member

Bigger gearbox on the mk2 - cormer
Pick up is a bit different, brass bushens with grease nipples on the mk 1, nylon on the mk2 also cam bearings a slightly bigger on mk2...
Some of the very old ones had a short drawbar and a different type gearbox aswell.. Electric ram for the flap on the spout was on the side of the chute and not on top on those very 1st ones aswell...

chop length looks horrendous....dread to think what the dry matter losses will be like with the air in that clamp!

I've tried buckraking crap like that and its no fun. :banghead: :banghead:
Only tried the waggon twice and both years it was the same. Might be OK with young mushy grass but no use for our sort of grass.

Think as Chae says you'd need to have somebody constantly rolling with a heavy machine to stand a chance, think thats why they all use massive loading shovels to have a hope of packing it in.
