Trailed forage harvesters

Thats farming. I spent most of 2016 milking cows for a humble income. Very little choice. Had to be done.
I see where you are coming from, but my comment about time costing was Bossfarmer's casualy costing a not insignificant amount of time invested as being equal to zero cost when costing out conserving fodder.
In my case, any working time has to be balanced against the missed opertunity of earning money elsewhere, ether within the farm buissiness or outside it.
You sound to be in the same boat as me though, pertinent cashflow issues do steer these decisions through necessity somtimes

More time spent stacking bales than pit yes but less time spent in winter feeding cattle with by bale slicer it takes very little time, the time uve mixed one load in a keenan ill have about 20 bales into the cattle

As this seems to be becoming a "bales v chopper" thread, just thought I'd ask how much HP do you put in front of a wagon (or trailed chopper) compared to a baler? and don't forget to add in the cost of a pit if you haven't already got one.

I have 210hp on the jumbo wagon , but basically the more power you have the faster you fill a load with the wagon , I have a customer who switched from bales to a pit , he built a pit with no walls and what he saved in cutting the pit versus the bales paid for the pit in the first year.
