I think to do that you need to add 9" to the length of the harvester drawbar to do it properly.

Need a wide angle joint on the shaft as well then.

Seems a lot of work for little benefit.

I agree, it is hardly that onerous to hook something up with a drawbar and pin.

Our old donkey engine powered forager was on the puh,x2 oil pipes and the control box into the cab and you were away,usually ended up with the worst tractor on the forager,basically if it could drag it it got hitched up.

if youre lucky /if you have time to get off fiddle with the lynch pin and wrestle out a possibly tight tow pin.
see what he wrote at the bottom of the post, if the trailed implement catches fire with a pickup hitch is far easier to dump it off and nip out the way ,saving at least the tractor.

I think if a driver finds it difficult to hitch up / un hitch a machine with a pin drawbar they would be better off nowhere near a trailed harvester or any machine for that matter.

I get that, the one advantage which I have outlined is if something catches fire especially if its on power beyond as thats just feeding the fire, Simply drop and go.

Alternatively I could replace the 200hp tractor under insurance fairly straight forward. Harder to find a good jf 1100 mk2 or alternative 5 knife wide drum jf stoll.

For this reason we run the baler on hook pickup not drawbar and pin

Does the jf place in Portadown still exist. I think it was j farm. It changed address at one time but there was a guy Alan that smoked a pipe was a very knowledgeable chap on harvesters

Alan retired a few years ago but I believe he does or was doing a bit of forager servicing.

Remember a post on here a few years back, compass tractors sold a new 1360 or something and was blew up in the first daydue to metal detector fault. Farm worker posted here and facebook...didnt go down well

Yes, blind spot in metal detector on feed roller, was rake tine so not exactly a small piece to slip through

Yes thats the reason i posted , for hot weather harvesting machinery and any one that's had like a baler catch fire would know what was meant.
Saw and smelt a wisp/whiff of burning, of smoke so I managed to get the pin out and drove off before it got too established luckily and when the tractor was parked safe i went back to the baler and put it out with water container and fire extinguisher ,very lucky that time but still a tad scary.

Pick up hitch would've been quicker and pto shaft and oil pipes would've just pulled away .electrics as well chucked out the back or ripped much better than letting the whole lot go up.

Often experience is the best teacher unfortunately.

Pick up hitch on a forager when I first read it I thought for picking trailers up. If my memory serves me right Standard drawbar for 540is 14 inch and 16 inch for 1000rpm

Why the need to continually supply harvester with 1000 rpm spline, we all have 1000rpm with a 540 spline, saves the bitter every time of changing

He did and it didn’t! The problem was eventually found to be circuit board related and not stopping the drive fast enough. Think the mid’ cured it. It was a 1460 by the way
