Trailed vs Self Propelled Sprayer

Having had a good look around on the Horsh stand yesterday I came to a couple of quick conclusions ,
1 they are well built
2 in a wet spring I would have some very deep tramlines ,,,, hell they are some mahosive machines

Think if I needed that sort of output I would run 2 smaller machines not that I will ever have to worry about such things. :)

Well I have made some progress on the bowser front. Thanks to @Andrew K for his advice. Have ordered an 8000l tank with a 3 inch Pacer pump. Will probably fit in our grain trailer this season. Then hope to buy a new beaver-tail trailer for next season which will allow it to be mounted alongside our Handler IV for next year.

Also looking at one of these to be able to drop chemical off in more remote places a few days before to be able to mix up out in the wilds: https://www.tool-net.co.uk/p-352039...xUn9LjtdRQX6fKN_AIfanKwSR_qS0FApvMaAntZ8P8HAQ.

Met a chap who at a course recently who used to drive a trailed Horsch and and now moved jobs and drives a Bateman RB55. Did say that he liked the Horsch very much (although had a number of problems to start with), but also is quite happy with his Bateman.

Why do you agonise over spending a 2 or 3 grand on a lock box, if you need it, get it and be done with it?!

Now come on , dont be a spoil sport ,,,,,, there's been very few pickings for those of us who are laid up at the moment ,,,,,, we need a new Feldy thread even if it comes down to which ratchet strap ,
the days are very long when you are not allowed to do what you want to

Fair point, the which cost/features/output calculations for which battery angle grinder are going to be pretty unmissable.

The answer is choose the Dewalt flexvolt though...

Even I could make something that did that job pretty easily in the workshop. Bet it would cost less than £500

It's not entirely simple. It needs to be bunded, vented, leak free, fireproof for 30 minutes, have forklift tine holders, and be strong enough to be secure. Yes, a simple metal box wouldn't take long; we were thinking of building one out of concrete blocks, but at the moment there are plenty of ditching jobs to do which are giving a much larger payback compared to building work.

I don't think that would be too difficult, unless the fireproof means putting insulation in

The van the chemical turns up in isnt bunded leak free and fireproof! I wouldnt think you need to go crazy if just storing for a few days

Farm near us has just had chemical stolen for the second time recently. Need something that is both secure-ish, but also totally compliant with the law. If the authorities get involved and it turns out that you've been storing chemical illegally then that is not good.

For the price of this plus your half way house bowser, couldn't you have just bought a proper bowser with lots of chemical storage tanks on it?

In short, no. Beaver-tail will be used for carting fert and moving excavator around. Can't see the point of having a dedicated bowser when you can have a modular arrangement with each part being separable and useful in its own right. Not planning on having an extra man on the bowser a lot of the time anyway. Independent chemical storage unit will be very handy in its own right.

Anyway, I'm sure you're just trying to wind me up.

I reckon a beaver tail trailer plus emduromax tank would be cheaper and has the flexibility to perform other tasks moving kit, seed and solid fert about ?

For chemical storage I would buy a 8ft sq shipping container and stock it on the trailer behind the tank

More product seems to be in IBC these days so a flat trailer and tank makes a cheap and flexible solution I reckon ?

Got a quote for an 8ft shipping container and they were quite a bit more expensive that that tank I linked to above. Also, space is an issue. Twin axle beaver-tail has a 6.5m length deck. Tank is 3.3m, then the Handler is 1.5x2m (not sure which way round it would need to sit).

Handler has already got an electric pump on it. Thought I'd buy an extra petrol pump rather than replacing the electric one because then you can use the pump independently with the tank in a grain trailer, especially when carting fert / seed. If having an extra man on the bowser then chemical storage on the bowser isn't so important. Would mix up two / three loads in the Handler in the main spray store, then travel to the field with the water tank full. Would then need to go back for water anyway, in which case you refill the Handler back in the main spray store.
