Trailer air brakes sticking on

Have a Rolland trailer where the air brakes stick on after you have hitched it up after it hasn't been used for a while.....habe to wait and mess about pressing the brakes to get them released.... After that you can use the trailer all day and not a problem.... Any ideas where to look? Will it be sticky relay valve?

Is the problem mechanical or air related? ie do the actuators move back with air pressure? If so it’s the linings rusting to the drum, if they don’t move straight away you have an air issue with maybe the shunt valve.

Do the brakes hold the trailer when it’s parked up. If so I’ve had that plenty of times and seems common. Usually if you back up a foot they release and are good to go
They do until the air is dumped or it leaks out then you can move it so not mechanical as in shoes sticking

Air related I think..... When you press the brake and release it's just dumping the air in the pipe....you don't get that big air brake lease sound......if you wait 5 min or so you can usually hear a bit of air coming out and eventually the pistons will retract

Sticky valve somewhere on the trailer, google what each one does and see if it can be pulled apart.

It could be the tractor brake controller I’ve had it on my newholland, brakes stuck on occasionally and then sometimes no air trailer brakes at all

Sounds like the brakes are leaking slowly when not in use. Then the tractor needs a bit more time to get enough pressure back in the trailer when you hitch it up.

No...theres plenty of air supply as its up to the max on the guage....and it's blowing off

The trailer should need more than 4 bar in the system before it will move
However it does sound like the load sence valve(if it has 1 fitted) may have had moist air in it and is very slightly corroded
