I always sound bitter when I say this but people on here seem to “need” so much machinery and then claim machinery costs are killing the job. (Have no memory of the OP doing this so please excuse me) but in this example who needs £15k of 24m sprayer for 150ac ? £1500 buy a plenty adequate one. 12m big enough even. Again apologies to OP cos not aimed specifically at you but I’m constantly astonished by stuff like this. As I have said before probably because I’m not a very good farmer that I can’t afford all this gear 🤐

I used to do a 80 acres of spuds with an 800 litre Allman with manual fold out booms. Admittedly ring fenced but still a blight spray every week. I wouldn't want to near a 12m boom nowadays though.

Whats the calculation between crop loss in wheat between 12m and 24m? It was surprisingly small when you work it out

Should have thought certainly £5k would buy something really quite tidy ex farm.
I would never advocate going back to 12m though, just cannot imagine it, having been 21m for years. Spraying increasingly becoming snatch a load here and there, and you need to feel like you're getting on.
What has made you grumpyarse this morning Rob?

12m at 10k is a 12ha/hr spot rate…..

I have two tractors tm155 and ts115, recon the ts be the sprayer tractor, im More keen on trailered sprayer, tracking drawbar or standard drawbar that is the question now

I bought a second hand knight trailed last year it was more than your budget but not as much as you would think. It has all the gadgets I want, no engine or mechanicals to go wrong. As you have a tractor already I would spend on the bit that does the spraying not the stuff that makes it move.

Depends on whether you are using a 4600 with 8 inch rowcrops or you are too lazy to take your 800’s off your Fendt

I've 200 acre grow potatoes & veg, I manage with a 12 year old 12 metre. I could afford something really fancy but WHY?

Row crops on one tractor wide tyres on the sister tractor. 10 minutes to swap.

The op could have a 100k a year job as a accountant and doesn't want to fudge about with a little sprayer. Just do a few loads early mornings, evenings and weekends.

How many people create a fulltime job for themselves at home fudging about with small/old machines that constantly need fixing.

Which is more inefficient?

See plenty of small farms snapped up by neighbours. They replace a fulltime man and a fleet of machinery for very little extra work and investment.

isobus, works a treat on my tractor
10 section gps
Fill control, tell it how much you want in the tank
Full boom recirculation
Steering axle
Auto height control
Air shut off nozzles (run from the tractors air)

Accuracy is spot on, spraying is a good job these days. A huge improvement on the old machine. I can see the advantages of a SP but at this budget I would concentrate on the bits that do the actual spraying

If you can afford to have the kit to make the job a pleasure, why wouldn't you?
I started with a Ford 3600 and an Allman 80 gallon 24ft. 4ac per fill. It was a miserable business.
I'm coming to the opinion that you only get one life, and I'm not going to die wondering what it would have been like to have driven a nice tractor/combine/sprayer, etc, that didn't need fettling every time you want to do a job.

Fair point but why subsidise the farm?
