Tramline methods

Chap I work for drills all the tramlines apart from the headland ones apart from the side of the field where you’ve set off. That way for the other 3 sides of the field inc short corners the sprayer can create his own headline tram do exactly the reason you suggest that he can put the outside of the boom where he wants it and not where the tramline dictates it has to be.

That's what I do ,works fairly well tbh

don't you find it hard to judge the 3 sides?
or are your fields nice enough that you can follow a drill coulter once setup?

when spraying grass off I snake like hell trying to keep tight ish to the walls and still end up tapping it or leaving a slight bit.

as for the chap who ends up sliding towards a barb wire fence, I feel your pain I nearly had to ring for a sideways tow with the combi on last year, backwards we crabbed sideways towards fence, forewards I couldn't turn away as back was going to swing into it. was getting towards a field corner as well! ended up leaving 6m undrilled!

That’s exactly what I do tramline from one side of the field and leave a 3 way headland (depending on shape of the field) for the spray man to do himself. I just wasn’t sure on the correct sequence for 24m. Cheers anyway

I start on one straight side if possible using 3m drill for 24m, do the half width thing to get the first one right.
Leave the headland tramlines til i'm spraying and then straddle the edge of the fourth/final headland run... seems to work plus crop growing on headland tram helps with rutting

Hi all. Just been looking through forums and articles on tramlines as I am using the John Deere system with a 4m combination and I’m wondering what people’s methods are for placing 24m tramlines correctly with a 4m. Cheers

Stride in about 19m from straightest headland put a mark both ends of field.(centre of tractor)
Set drill to run on run 6 and strike the field out.
Keep going (assuming yours tramlines on run 4)
When you've done, do a half width around headland, then edge of drill is your mark for 2nd run. 3rd run on your marker 4th is your tramline then do a 5th to finish.
I find you. Have to do a headland run on inside of tramline else you've drilled tramlines back out.

Put no tramlines in here at all. With rtk and 9m drill do every other run across field fill in on way back, three times right round headland and out the gate where we started!
Dangerous is that if you have a break down , and then you could not get back ,
Know some who did that last year ended up with half a field as quad konked , a right royal f up

Looking to start in the middle of the field not off the hedge side so ideally wanting to strike first tramline in then work from there.
Have you no a b lines already or starting from scratch . And ask the sprsy man first if your new to drilling , drill with poles , even if it put garings in at each side ,
Start with a tramline first , but make sure you don’t end up with a wide or very narrow tram near hedge side or spray Man will love you

Hi all,
I’ve started combi drilling cereals this spring for the first time with a lemken solitair 8, 3m drill.
I’ll be mainly tramlining at 24m, what is the correct sequence? I’ve been told to start at one side of the field and on my 5th run tramline (including my half run on my second pass). Then every 8 runs after that.

Can anyone shed any light on wether that’s right or wrong?

Thanks joe

Haven’t put tramlines in with the drill for about 15 years now. Just fit RTK to the sprayer and do it with that

What hapens if It pee'd rain when you reach furthest end?
Depends what we have to drill, if forecast is catchy stick to the smaller fields or in bigger fields do a drill fill at a time across and back, most of our bigger fields have 4 or six ways in so not a problem. Can usually see rain coming from about 1/2 an hour away in all directions. Drilling about 20-25 acres an hour so would need to be a lot of rain in a short period of time to catch us out it’s never happened in 5 years but there probably will be a time. Try to get everything drilled by the end of this week so weather usually more favourable in September.
