Transport

Walker Migeley, Sheffield, google it, van, lorry and low loader policy,
£240 per year, regardless of age, even new lorry if you want,
social domestic and pleasure, with commute to work as well, carry any of own goods, including your tractor and plough or other stuff to and from shows, matches etc, even a greenhouse for your mother,
best policy by far for the money
Its funny how it changes, I had my tractors with Walker Midge for a good few years, now they're a mile off. They weren't much good for my truck either. Its all the same names though and worth shopping around...

Thanks for the replies chaps. I would have thought the NFU would have made an exemption for social, domestic and pleasure. But there you go!

Interesting topic. Having now got a lorry to transport my Fergie to ploughing matches, I was advised to go to NFU. After spending best part of 30 minutes on the phone, it turns out you cannot have just the Vintage Lorry Policy, you must have an existing policy with them, like a Vintage Tractor. The did say I could insure my Ferige with them and then once the policy is established, add the lorry.

As I am halfway thought my Vintage tractor policy with Walker Midgley, I did not see the benefit.

I did look around but the Walker Midgley lorry policy was the best I could come up with, and a bonus being able to pay in instalments.

These are some of the differences I found.

WM would insure me and driving is also permitted by any person over 25 with the policy holders permission.

Social Domestic and Pleasure including transporting property eg a traction engine or vintage tractor not belonging to you provided you receive no remuneration other than reasonable out of pocket expenses and fuel expenses.

The biggest difference is the 6000 miles per year, most of the others were a maximum of 3000.

That's interesting Trevor, I don't have any policies with NFU, but was still offered a sub £120 fully comp vintage policy with them. It seems to me that local offices make their own rules up as they go along.

NFU are a company like no other! They seem to exist as agencies, none of whom are up to speed.I had no trouble in insuring my old lorry, and had no other NFU policies at the time.I told a friend about it, and he enquired at his local office, only to be told the policy did not exist! After quoting my details and policy number, did they admit he was right, and covered him.Strange thing is, his is comprehensive, mine is third party! All other details are similar, including the premium, £82 last renewal.
Renewal notices come with a multitude of "Please advise" notations, notations I advised last year, and the year before that!

Where is the best place to get lorry insurance if it doesn't meet the NFU's vintage lorry criteria, that is 15 years old.
I have a quote of about £116, fully comp for vintage, but because it is only 14 years old they want 8 to 900 hundred, which for me is a non starter.
Just wondered if any of you guys know of anywhere more reasonable?
Have you got sorted out now with a waggon Allan?

Our local NFU office are very good and have totally different prices to head office, four or five years ago when I ran my lorry local was £80 head office nearly £800, all very strange.

I had dealings with NFU of an entirely different nature. They wrote to me on headed paper with an office address that no longer existed and a phone number that was discontinued also. They are shambolic.
