Transporters Authorisation Number

So.. how many people have one of these? We have been on a list apparently for a course in our area for a long time but they aren't running, seems like a total waste of time useless thing anyway but do people bother? Or is it in effect not required because no one bothers? There is always a conspicuous blank on the movement licenses next to "T.A.N." on the forms I've seen. I am asking because I will be doing some longer trips with small-ish numbers of sheep to sales etc in the future. Thanks

You don't need to go on a course for this you just apply to your animal health office. The authorisation lasts for 5 years I think.

You need a course for the CPC

Same here. I've never bothered digging it out of the glove box to write the number on the AML1 and I've never been picked up for it. Pretty sure it's still a legal requirement, for what that's worth.

Thanks for the forms and things Fergie, looking through them the one question is basically have you wasted a day and £75 doing a certificate of competence so sadly it is more than filling in a form. There is only one place on farming connect running them (in Powys wherever that is) so don't know if that shows it is on the way out.

I did mine at Glynllifon (local ag coll) in December 07. Can't remember how much it cost though.
I put the number down on the aml when I go over 40 miles which 2 of my parcels are. Marts are not over 40 though.

Did mine at Walford, still got the card though never been asked for it. According to Trading Standards, paperwork needs to be carried in the car when moving dead animals say to the kennels but there is no official form available.

Managed to check now and it was 45.00. I had to attend twice because the whole system was down the first time. It is an on screen, multiple choice exam.

There are two things:

1. The handler has to have a certificate to prove he/she passed a multiple choice exam on welfare related matters. The exam covers the species you elect to be tested on and you have species categories on your certificate if you pass (e.g. poultry, horses or just the main red meat species). You should have this if you plan to transport < 8 hours and over 65kms from base. You can undertake a more detailed test including practical assessment for > 8 hours licensing
2. The "business" entity needs an animal transporter authorisation number

I always assumed the AML1 required (2) if applicable?
