Had a Mk1 with MF35 steering box without power steering, horrible thing to drive.
They were hot, dusty, bouncy, noisy, under powered and engineered. I think the Mk2 was better but I did not drive one properly. The latter did have a tendency to jump out of low range on overrun down hill. I think a 6 cyl version was experimented with, my then boss even supplied and engine out of an MF combine.
Crap as they were the Trantor was part there and very handy for running around with bowser, header trailers and the like.
I have seen a photo of the one I drove on the net in a beautifully restored condition. Mind you there would be little of the original drive train left!

This Trantor is at Biddenden Tractorfest https://www.tractorfest.co.uk/ this weekend.

I asked the owner if he had been to the seaside with it recently, & he added that he got a speeding ticket on the way into Worthing on the day you took the photo @Young Apprentice !

I mentioned this thread, hopefully he will be along for a look later & here is a bump back to the top to help him find it.

My student days boss was a big supporter of Trantor. We actually went to a farming friend of his in Suffolk to remove a 6.354 out of a MF 500 combine and send it to Trantor to play about with. That was still with the MK 1 era. The first model would never have survived the torque of the 6 cyl model. They had a B reg Mk 2 but I only drove it on a one off visit. It had the Leyland 4.98 turbo and was sharper than MK 1 but in the first year or 2 already jumped out of range on hill descent.
