Travel insurance

We've had to change providers in each of the past 2 years, started off with the Post Office, they refused to renew as our daughter was now 18 and they wouldn't include her on a family policy, switched to Axa, 12 months later they had stopped providing travel cover so we switched to Aviva. Policy seems to provide good cover figures.

HSBC advanced current account for think £12 month covers any car your in breakdown cover, Family holiday cover and more.
I was always sceptical about how good it was untill I had a medical emergency on a cruise ship in the middle of the Aegean.
Anyhow contacted bank insurer all covered and even paid and cleared my ships medical account BEFORE we left the ship.

NFU Mutual.

Made the mistake about six years ago of changing from NFU to a cheaper option for family cover. About 10 months later we had to cancel a rather expensive holiday due to my wife breaking her leg a week before leaving. The insurers did not make it easy and we ended up only being able to claim back about half the cost of the holiday, while friends who were coming with us and with the NFU got everything back immediately and with no fuss. Needless to say travel is now back as part of our overall cover with them.

NFU wouldn't cover me after I had an operation to repair an aneurysm. So now with SAGA, much cheaper but cannot comment on payouts as not had to claim.
NFU did have to pay out when I had to cancel holiday and were fine about it!!
