I’ve just purchased 30 tons of barley I usually treat it with maximum to feed to lambs but it’s only 15% is that to dry to treat? Or is there other options

i use home'n dry......i was told that it doesn't need to be high moisture content....mine was sub 14%......they told me to add 30l/t just to activate it (better just check that  ....anyhoo not that much)......they also said 15% off the combine is different to 15% outta drier

ring em up and ask:)

I’ve done it (with Home n Dry) at 15% a few times and been ok. I guess it would be easy enough to add water while your mixing it, if you’re concerned though.

yes add water with a hose pipe in the mixer wagon , there's a formula for it which i forget, take it too about 17 % or so is all thats needed i reckon / will be perfect , bit of moisture helped for us as we fed whole to sheep.
oh that was H& D mind you not maximmum

worked well when i did that anyway.

15% straight of the combine will work but if your mixing in wagon and leaving whole I would add 20lts water to the tonne. If your rolling it and treating at the same time it'll work fine

Thanks for the replies I’m leaving it whole for the sheep so will add some water I’ll have to borrow a diet feeder as we usually mix it with the loader I can use home and dry if it’s better as I haven’t bought the treatment yet

I borrowed a feeder wagon with a weigher the first year, but have just mixed it well with a loader since and seems to work just as well as long as it's mixed thoroughly. I mix it a bucket at a time, in front of the heap, then just push it up.
If you want to add water, I can't see why chucking whatever quantity is needed on the small heap being mixed, followed by the urea product, then mix thoroughly. No need to make the job complicated, especially if you need to find a feeder wagon from somewhere else.
