Done it for a couple years. It doesn’t seem to make any difference on cure rates. For cows at peak that are really producing milk I wouldn’t do it. Grass rats before or after peak is fine.
Would be very common in NZ, would agree with it doesn't seem to affect cure rates. Personal opinion it wouldn't work as well with a high yielding cows.
I milked OAD for the first six weeks.The cell count varied between 400 and 700.Within a week of going twice a day the cell count dropped to 120.Traditional method of curing mastitis pre common use of antibiotics was to keep cow in shed and milk out quarter every hour or so,or even better if you had a few calves that she would let suck her.Hence my view that OAD treatment is not the best way to go.
Cell count on milk that’s going down the drain isn’t a problem then though. If they are back down within a week of going in the tank we should be able to live with that
