Tree shear

Thinking of getting a tree shear to go on a JCB JS130 digger, it is piped for a breaker but as far as i can tell the hydraulic service for the breaker is only single acting and i assume you would need double acting for a tree shear.
Is there a way of getting a tree shear to work on the single acting service?

It will need a double acting service to work the ram both ways and I think the single service just free flows the returns ,,might be something on the valve block pressurize the return pipe

My 8t has a knuckle boom so I put a manual diverter in and use that for the shear

Could you put an electronic diverter into another circuit and use that for your shear.

Should be able to put a 3-2 electronic diverted valve in, press the button, move joystick it’ll send it in one side of the ram say close the jaw from main feed pipe, release the button move joystick it’ll go to the other side to say open the jaw and dump back to tank from the 3rd port on the valve.

I've only got a mini digger. These have a rocking pedle on the floor. I have a few attachments, tilting bucket push pedle one way bucket moves and moves opposite way when pushed the other way.
Maybe different on bigger machine.

If it's piped up for a breaker only it will be single acting only. There is usually a switch on the right hand side console which allows you to change it to a double acting circuit. It's missing you will require a valve to convert it, speak to your local JCB dealer they should be able to advise you.

We had the same issue. There is a kit you can buy 'aftermarket' to allow double acting working, Summit Equipment Services 01773 520488, guys there were very helpful. 2 years ago it was £575. Need to increase pressure as well to cut the biggest trees, but we can cut probably 6" diameter on a 12" capable shear without any problem on breaker pressure.

Is that a DIY kit or is a fitter needed?

I changed our js 130 from breaker to double acting wasn't very hard as long as the valve slice for the breaker line has relief valves fitted. All you have to do if they are is remove the blank on the slice and pipe it to the return line and blank the return pipe off were it goes back towards the tank I think you can get a proper diverter valve so you can change between breaker and double acting . you will probably need to turn up the pressure on the breaker relief valve for a tree shear .
