@czechmate @Mrfarmjunk Just to get a feel for what you are saying - when was your harvest, what is the temperature when you plant and the how long to first frost and what's the rainfall like? I ask because your mid Oct. might be very different.


Ah, well here I don’t sow it before the end of October. I was writing of the uk. The problem is the ears (when flowering I guess) are more sensitive to frost. I did sow a bit earlier here one year in a dip (frost pocket) and there was a late frost. It looked a cracking crop too but hardly had a grain in it.

It will feed exactly the same as wheat and perform better than second wheat in many situations and you can farm save seed. Agronomy is very similar to wheat.
