We grew some spring triticale for a seed company last year it pass all field inspections. They have only moved 2 loads out of 6. Anyone else having slow movement of seed crops this spring. . .If any one wants some feed triticale I can spare some. i have germination and admixture report from seed company.

Yes I grew some seed spring triticale and I haven't heard a work from them since they sent me the seed test report back in Oct/ November.

I suppose it could be partly my fault for not chasing them but I would have thought by now they be wanting to get it processed.

I can get rid of it for feed so I'm not to worried.

A lot of spring triticale gets used for wholecrop, or wholecrop mixtures in the North & West of the country. Equally, a lot of it gets used in game-cover mixes etc.

Both these markets tend to be quite late markets, and will often run well into April or even May, so in the past we have been moving & processing spring triticale seed well into the late spring. I'd be having a word with them to guage their feeling before flogging it off on the fly and losing your seed premium.

Also worth remembering that they have incurred crop entry and crop inspection costs, so they'll be keen for you to adhere to your contract until such times as you / they agree to release it for non-seed use....

The man who sold me the seed who owns the seed company said we could sell it any time after harvest and they would market it if It didn’t make seed grade. Along with other things that was not to worry about. Had 2 loads go so quality must be ok but won’t take the rest unless they get orders for it. Worried it getting a bit later in the season.

you was well and truly shafted, C2 triticale is give or take the same cost per ton as wheat or barley.
It's a crop with potential in my opinion.

Ps I'll sell you all you need for a discount rate of 95p kg as Your a good old boy @spin cycle 😁😁😁😁

not at that time as i checked several outlets and didn't buy any in the end ;) .....tell you what i'll do ...as it happens i know where there are some 'lightly used' animal masks;).....swapsies for some triticale😗

Don’t want to name anyone, yet. there is time left to sort it out hopefully.
Yes - it seems very odd - that they would pay crop entry fees and crop inspection fees, and then forego their interest in the crop immediately after harvest? Especially when you consider that spring triticale has been scarce and sold out these last 2 or 3 seasons.

Do you know the actual germination rate? Could it be that it failed its germ test and the 2 loads that have moved haven't actually gone for seed?

last time i bought seed triticale it was £1kg  ....stopped considering it as a crop.....perhaps thats why it's not selling now:scratchhead:

£1 per kg is pretty extreme...... Did you buy a small amount? (55p/kg for the seed and another 45p for delivery maybe?) Seems incredibly high....

Spring triticale seed is around £475 to £550 per tonne right now.... (depends on dressings & delivery costs etc).

i keep planting some on the window ledge under some kitchen roll and it’s around 90% germination

I see there's heavy interaction in the triticale section. I am actually interested to buy it for feed for poultry since it contains more protein than wheat, especially after letting it germinate. However, I can't find a soul that sells it. Organic triticale would be even better. I live in Buckinghamshire, so if anyone is interested in selling some, please let me know (email [email protected]). My hens and I would appreciate it greatly.
