So you ran the closing leg shallow then as that's what you said caused the disturbance, slightl contradiction.Like with any piece of equipment it’s how you set it. See the pic I posted a few mins ago. Speaks for itself

So with the higher disturbance the closing legs were on new metal at full depth so around 7 inches. In the low disturbance picture they would of been about 4 inches which is more normal and probably 90% of how it’s used.
It’s versatile so you can set how you like but it covers the seed better than anything else we’ve used.

How does the drill cope with chopped straw? With straw prices and fert prices where they are I’m tempted to chop some this next harvest.
Does the drill leave the straw more on top ? It’d sooner have shoots than roots growing through straw if that makes sense.

This was through chopped straw last year. Not highest yield of straw though at around 1t/acre.
And yes it does seem to leave the straw on top. The tines sweep it to one side and lift it at the same time.
Picture 2 shows it in wild bird cover. Had to travel slowly but it did it. Only a very small amount to do but worth a try.

I have to ask and sorry to resuscitate an old thread but has anyone seen or got experience of drilling grass into a short term ley with a Triton ? The idea would be to boost productivity without ripping it all up and starting from scratch.

Not grass but I’ve scratched stubble turnips into chopped wheat straw. Didn’t want much disturbance due to high ryegrass pressure so I ran the seeding tines just touching the surface almost blowing the seed onto the surface then ran the covering tines at 1/2 deep just to get a bit of soil cover.

Am I correct that there is a share that can run 2 or inches under where the seed is deposited?
If so I was wondering if I drill ryegrass at say an inch but the share runs 2 in deeper will it help also take out the surface irregularity and tractor traffic wheelings you get with silage traffic ? I do not mind soil disturbance if reseeding at a full rate .
Maybe fit a gutter roller onto the drill ?
