I am trying to remove a gland from a hydraulic jack on a MF 50 B digger to replace a leaking seal. There seems to be a hexagon nut type on the end of the gland that I cannot remove. I have tried heating it but to no avail. Does anyone have any info on the problem? Any help would be appreciated.

A picture would go a long way to explaining the problem.

Peening the area of the cylinder where the threads are is better than heat. Draw a line axially the length of the threads, and hammer that line, then go around the cylinder hammering more lines until it comes loose.

That's assuming this isn't a wire ring retainer, but then it'd would be loose already, right?
