Tru-test EziWeigh 7i error

Hi guys

We have a Tru-test EziWeigh 7i weigh head which we use for cattle and sheep weighing. It has always worked find and still does the weighing with sheep and younger cattle but has just started to display an error message whenever we weigh adult cattle. The error code is 'oUEr' and refers to 'Overload. Weight on scale is greater than its capacity.'.
We have small hill cows and have always managed to weigh anything including adult bulls so there's definitely not an overload issue. When reading the weight via EID to upload to the stock recorder, the weigh head sometimes still shows the error message but the stock recorder shows the correct weight. We did cattle today without EID and again the weigh head showed the error message but the stock recorder showed 300kg which was definitely not true.
Any ideas what could cause this sudden error message? I'll probably need to phone Ritchie but thought I'll just ask here first.

Thanks in advance!

There's a calibration setting on them which you can adjust. You basically increase its weighing capacity by increasing the load weight capacity setting. The capacity on ours is set at 200kg but if I remember it can go up to 2000kg. You'll need something that is a third of the weighing capacity to set the 'new' weight capacity when calibrating.
I think if you press menu and enter at the same timeca different menu option appears which prompts you to set capacity etc.

thanks a lot everybody, that's really helpful! battery is definitely alright, will check the load bars tomorrow (although they are not that old) and look into the calibration setting.

It'll be load bars; worth calling manufacturer to check what their process is. Is it possible that you've overloaded the bars at some point and damaged them?

thanks I'll probably need to get in touch with them, not had a look at the load bars yet. definitely not overloaded them, they are always sat in the cattle race and other than cattle or the odd sheep there's nothing goes over the weight scales.

Hi, the connections on the weigh bars where the cable joins into the weigh cell had corroded, it was as cheap to just buy a new set so we did that, got the heavy duty one which seems built much better also around the connections. Never had any issue since although we are quite pedantic now about keeping it dry and making sure urine gets cleaned off before we store it somewhere high up (above the cattle crush!) to make sure no dampness on the floor can get to it.

If you think the issue might be in the weigh head though open up the back and check that all the bits are sitting in their plugin points as we had it before that one had come loose a bit. Plugged it back in and it worked again. It's not too complicated either, pretty obvious to see what plugs in where. Just make sure you open it up somewhere absolutely dry and clean and don't touch anything else in there.

Hope this helps, good luck!

Yes we think its one of the bars. Plugging them in separately says kg on one and “over” on the other. Took it apart as much as i could but can’t see anything obvious. Did you notice cable corrosion or was it spotted when it was being repaired?
