Tru test XRS Stick reader

Right, on Christmas Eve we scanned some ewes ear tags with our Tru Test xrs stick reader, it worked perfectly fine. I noticed that the battery was low so when I got home I stuck it straight on charge, I can’t say I recalled noticing the battery icon on the screen as it charged. So skip forward to this evening when I went to print off said ear tag numbers and the stick reader wouldn’t turn on. I plugged it back into the charger and the battery icon didn’t come on, plugged it into my lap top and this made no difference. Am I looking at a fudged battery? Or is it something more terminal? I’ll have a ring round in the morning to see if I can locate another stick reader with the same battery to see if that makes a difference.
Thanks in advance

I'm gonna be the arse on this thread that does this!

come on @gone up the hill ....... let's rock!!!!

You can tell this EID tagging is a load of nonsense and unworkable as they are not introducing it on the 1st of Jan as intended!

But Minette Batters ( she who works against farmers intrests and is the main driver behind increased farm assurance regs/ WLA assurance etc ) is hell bent on seeing it introduced as it will in her words : make farmers more efficient = in real terms that Means she will get another well paid job on another quango for a few days work a year when she quits being NFU president,,,, so it will come in at some point! even thou it will cost the industry millions of ££s in both costs and time that farmers cannot get back from the market place when they sell their animals but that important fact doesn't seem to bother her......

We were more efficient years ago before all the paper work nonsense started.

Yep and it will only get a lot worse as the NFU support any red tape/ paperwork that someone in a suit in London dreams up!..

As we all know the EID tagging of sheep is a complete farce and waste of money and the same will be said for cattle when they are EID tagged.

No reason to make it mandatory for all cattle, fine if people want to put it in to help with breeding records etc but totally unworkable for all cattle/ med records etc!

Quite why the likes of Minette are so keen for the supermarkets to have real time data of farmers records/ COP costs etc baffles me!

Why don't these reader have mobile phone type batteries?
And surely they should have USB methods of saving data logged with time and date?

It's not rocket science these days is it?

Even better there is common or garden AA batteries in the shearwell stick reader. :sneaky:

Maybe, but depends on what power requirements the reader has?
All it needs to do is store umpteen thousands tag numbers and run a bluetooth , in the Shearwell there is 4 AA batteries that you can get 24/7 in the petrol station if you need to.

Would be good if more batteries were standardised, like in tablets etc,

As long as the batteries last a decent length of time.
No good if they go flat half way through a job no matter how cheap and plentiful they are.

Why not put a gallon petrol tank on a car? Petrol is available easily and you pass loads every trip.

Many thanks for the offer Sean, got someone on the case and a new battery should be with me over the next few days so hopefully by Monday I should know what the problem is(y). But like others are saying, why one earth aren’t batteries and fittings all standardised
Stick a photo up of the old battery or replacement and somebody will know which generic they’re using. No way would Shearwell have a bespoke battery, I’d imagine.
